Checker Stitch Knitting Pattern

Work with a multiple of 18 stitches + 2 + 2 edge stitches.

Cast on 22 stitches (18 + 2 + 2 edge stitches) and work according to chart.

The chart shows only Right Side rows.

On Wrong Side Rows, purl all stitches and yarn-over loops.

The pattern repeat = 18 stitches wide.

Begin with 1 edge stitch, work patt rep throughout, end with 2 stitches after patt rep and 1 edge stitch.

k: Knit

p: Purl

yo: yarn over

k2tog: knit 2 stitches together as one

skpo: slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch 

slip wyib: slip 1 pwise, leave yarn at back of work

Row 1 (right side): edge stitch, * slip wyib2, k7, slip wyib2, p7 *; repeat from * to *; slip wyib2, edge stitch.

Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (wrong side): Purl.

Rows 3 and 7: edge stitch, * slip wyib2, skpo, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, slip wyib2, p7 *; repeat from * to *; slip wyib2, edge stitch.

Rows 5 and 9: edge stitch, * slip wyib2, k1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skpo, k1, slip wyib2, p7 *; repeat from * to *; slip wyib2, edge stitch.

Row 11: edge stitch, * slip wyib2, p7, slip wyib2, k7 *; repeat from * to *; slip wyib2, edge stitch.

Rows 13 and 17: edge stitch, * slip wyib2, p7, slip wyib2, skpo, yo, k3, yo, k2tog *; repeat from * to *; slip wyib2, edge stitch.

Rows 15 and 19: edge stitch, * slip wyib2, p7, slip wyib2, k1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skpo, k1 *; repeat from * to *; slip wyib2, edge stitch.

Repeat Rows 1-20 throughout.
