Squares Stitch Knitting Pattern

Work with a multiple of 12 stitches + 8 + 2 edge stitches.

Cast on 22 stitches (1 + 12 + 7 + 2 edge stitches) and work according to chart.

The chart shows only Right Side rows.

On Wrong Side rows, work all stitches as they appear or as given in instructions.

The pattern repeat = 12 stitches wide.

Begin with 1 edge stitch and 1 stitch before patt rep, work patt rep throughout, end with 7 stitches after patt rep and 1 edge stitch.

k: Knit

p: Purl

gst (1 st in garter stitch): purl in right side and wrong side rows

C6F (k2+p2+k2): slip 2 sts to 1st cable needle and hold in front; slip 2 sts to 2nd cable needle and hold in back; K2; then P2 from 2nd cable needle and K2 from 1st cable needle

Rows 1, 3, 5 and 7 (right side): edge st, k1, * k2, p2, k8 *; repeat from * to *; k2, p2, k3, edge st.

Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (wrong side): work each stitch as it appears on this side of work (k the k sts and p the p sts) or as given in instructions.

Rows 9 and 13: edge st, gst, * k2, p2, k2, gst6 *; repeat from * to *; k2, p2, k2, gst, edge st.

Row 11: edge st, gst, * C6F (k2+p2+k2), gst6 *; repeat from * to *; C6F (k2+p2+k2), gst, edge st.

Repeat Rows 1-14 throughout.
