Checker Stitch Knitting Pattern

How to knit Checker Stitch:

Work with a multiple of 12 stitches + 6 + 2 edge stitches.

Cast on 20 sts (12 + 6 + 2 edge sts) and work according to chart.

The chart shows Right Side rows and Wrong Side rows.

The numbers at right edge of chart indicate RS rows, and at left edge WS rows.

Read RS rows from right to left, WS rows from left to right.

The pat rep = 12 sts wide.

2/3 Right Cross: slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to back, K3tog tbl, K2 from cable needle

2/3 Left Cross: slip 3 sts to cable needle, hold to front, K2, K3tog tbl from cable needle

Rows 1 and 3 (RS): edge st, * p6, k6 *; repeat from * to *, p6, edge st.

Rows 2 and 4 (WS): purl all sts.

Row 5: edge st, * k2, [make 3 sts (K1, yo, K1) into 1 st] twice, k8 *; repeat from * to *, k2, [make 3 sts (K1, yo, K1) into 1 st] twice, k2, edge st.

Row 6: edge st, p2, (slip 3 pwise, leave yarn at front of work) twice, p2, * p8, (slip 3 pwise, leave yarn at front of work) twice, p2 *; repeat from * to *, edge st.

Row 7: edge st, * 2/3 Right Cross, 2/3 Left Cross, k6 *; repeat from * to *, 2/3 Right Cross, 2/3 Left Cross, edge st.

Row 8: purl all sts.

Rows 9 and 11: edge st, * k6, p6 *; repeat from * to *, k6, edge st.

Rows 10 and 12: purl all sts.

Row 13: edge st, * k8, [make 3 sts (K1, yo, K1) into 1 st] twice, k2 *; repeat from * to *, k6, edge st.

Row 14: edge st, p6, * p2, (slip 3 pwise, leave yarn at front of work) twice, p8 *; repeat from * to *, edge st.

Row 15: edge st, * k6, 2/3 Right Cross, 2/3 Left Cross *; repeat from * to *, k6, edge st.

Row 16: purl all sts.

Repeat Rows 1-16 throughout.
