How to knit Checker Stitch:

Work with multiple of 6 stitches + 3 + 2 edge stitches.

Cast on 17 sts (6 + 6 + 3 + 2 edge sts) and work according to chart.

The chart shows Right Side rows and Wrong Side rows.

The pat rep = 6 sts wide.

Begin with 1 edge stitch, work patt repeat throughout, end with 3 sts after patt and 1 edge st.

yo: yarn over

cdd (Central Double Decrease): slip first and second stitches together as if to knit, knit 1 stitch, pass two slipped stitches over the knit stitch

Row 1: edge st, * p3, k3, repeat from * to last 4 sts, p3, edge st.

Row 2: edge st, k3, * p3, k3, p3, repeat from * to last stitch, edge st.

Row 3: edge st, * k3, yo, cdd, yo, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k3, edge st.

Row 4: edge st, p3, * k3, p3, repeat from * to last stitch, edge st.

Row 5: edge st, * k3, p3, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k3, edge st.

Row 6: edge st, p3, * k3, p3, repeat from * to last stitch, edge st.

Row 7: edge st, * k3, p3, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k3, edge st.

Row 8: edge st, p3, * k3, p3, repeat from * to last stitch, edge st.

Row 9: edge st, * yo, cdd, yo, k3, repeat from * to last 4 sts, yo, cdd, yo, edge st.
