Poncho with Cables

Size: 8/10 (US 4/6)

Materials: 

Yarn: 500 g (50% Wool, 50% Acrylic, yardage = 200 m/100 g); 1 pair quick knit needles and one circular needle, both size 6 mm (US 10).

Rib Patt: alt K1, P1 Rib.

Stockinette stitch (St st): Work RS rows K and WS rows P; work rnds only K.

Reverse stockinette stitch (Rev st st): Work RS rows P and WS rows K; work rnds only P.

Cable (over 9 sts):

Work 12 rows in St st. 

Row 13: Slip 9 sts to cn, hold to front, K9, K9 from cn. 

* Work 26 rows in St st. 

Work cable crossing on next row *. Rep between * - *.

Gauge: 20 sts and 21 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Note:

Work top down. 

Cast on 92 sts and work 18 cm in Rib Patt in rnds. 

Cont as foll: 18 sts of cable, 2 sts in Rev st st, create 3 sts from next 3 sts (k3tog tbl, do not remove st from needle, yarn over RH needle, work knit sts once again and slip them from LH needle), 2 sts in Rev st st, 18 sts of cable, 3 sts in Rev st st (center), 18 sts of cable, 2 sts in Rev st st, create 3 sts from 3 sts, 2 sts in Rev st st, 18 sts of cable, 3 sts in Rev st st (center).    

Work in rnds. Work even rnds as they appear. On back and front inc 1 st (yarn over from back to front) at each end on every 2nd row before and after center st. 

Work new sts into pattern. 

As a result: 2 sts in Rev st st, create 3 sts from 3 sts, then 13 sts in St st, 2 sts in Rev st st, create 3 sts from 3 sts, 2 sts in Rev st st, 19 sts in St st - center.   

When piece meas 38 cm (after increases are complete) divide work into front and back and cont each part separately back and forth in rows.   

After 23 cm beg to work in Rib Patt. Dec sts evenly across 1st row working 2 sts tog after every 2 sts. 

When rib meas 8 cm, bind off sts as they appear.

Rep for other side.

Finishing: 

Sew side seams on rib.
