Long Cardigan with Yoke and Short Sleeves

ardigan Sizes: 8/10 (US 4/6).

Materials: 

Yarn: 600 g (100% Acrylic, yardage = 104 m/40 g); quick knit needles sizes 4 and 5 mm (US 6 and 8); 5 colour-matched buttons. 

Double Seed St: 

Row 1: *k1, p1; rep from * to the end of row.

Row 2 and all further even rows: work sts as they appear.

Row 3: p1, k1, i.e. move pattern 1 st over.

Repeat Rows 1-4 throughout.

Reverse garter st (rev gst): purl every row.

Diamond Pattern (over 32 sts): work acc to chart.

Rib Patt: alt K1, P1 Rib.

Gauge:

20 sts = 10 cm over Double Seed St with 5 mm needles.

Back:

Using 5 cm needles, cast on 87 sts and work in Double Seed St.

When piece measures 50 cm from beg, bind off all sts as they appear.

Right Front:

Using 5 cm needles, cast on 43 sts and work in Double Seed St.

When piece measures 50 cm from beg, bind off all sts as they appear.

Left Front: Work in reverse.

Yoke:

Using 5 mm needles, cast on 44 sts and work as foll: 4 sts in rev gst, 32 sts in Diamond Patt acc to chart, 8 sts in Rib Patt.  

On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.

When piece meas about 124 cm from the longest edge of rib, end with 1 row which corresponds to Row 20 of chart. Bind off all sts without fitting. 

Finishing:

Sew side seams. Leave 12 cm from lower edge open for slits.

Place markers at 6 sts from each edge on back and outside of each front. 

Apply yoke to upper edge of body at rib border so that letters of each part match. Sew with small stitches.  

There are 24 cm of yoke free between back and fronts to form sleeves.

With 4 cm needles, for collar, pick up 131 sts from RS along yoke rev gst border.  

Work 13 rows in Rib Patt. Bind off all sts as they appear.

With 4 mm needles, pick up 149 sts from RS along front edges, including height of collar. 

Work 8 rows in Rib Patt. Bind off all sts as they appear.

Work 5 buttonholes on right front and sew buttons onto left front.
