Head circumference = 50 cm.
Materials:
Yarn: 100 g (100% Acrylic, yardage = 300 m/100 g); one pair quick knit needles size 3 mm (US 2.5).
Stocking stitch (St st): work RS rows K and WS rows P.
Rib Pattern: K1, P1 Rib.
Diamond Pattern: Multiple of 10 + 2 selv sts.
Work according to chart. Only RS rows are shown.
On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.
Rep rows 1-20 throughout.
With contrasting yarn, cast on 112 sts and knit 1 row. Then work 60 rows in St st with main yarn.
Continue to work 14 rows in Rib Pattern, purl 1 row for fold and then 14 rows in Rib Patt again.
Then work in Diamond Pattern as foll:
1st row: Purl.
2nd row: Knit.
Work rows 3-10 in St st.
11th row: selv st, pick up 1 st of 1st and 2nd row onto LH needle and work P tog with foll st, * P8, pick up 1 st of 1st and 2nd row onto LH needle and work P tog with foll st, pick up again 1 st of 1st and 2nd row onto LH needle and work P tog with foll st, rep from * 9 more times, P8, pick up 1 st of 1st and 2nd row onto LH needle and work P tog with foll st, selv st.
12th row: Knit.
Work rows 13-20 in St st.
21st row: selv st, P4, * pick up 1 st of 11th and 12th row onto LH needle and work P tog with foll st, pick up again 1 st of 11th and 12th row onto LH needle and work P tog with foll st, P8, rep from * 9 more times, pick up 1 st of 11th and 12th row onto LH needle and work P tog with foll st, pick up again 1 st of 11th and 12th row onto LH needle and work P tog with foll st, P4, selv st.
22nd row: Purl.
Rows 23-60: rep from 3rd row, pick up sts as shown in chart.
Row 61: work as 21st row, work decs as shown in chart.
Cont in St st, work decs as shown in chart.
On Row 75 draw rem sts tog with main yarn and finish off.
Pick up sts along cast-on edge and work decs as shown on Row 61 of chart.
Finish in same way as for RS.
For earflaps, with a margin of 12 sts on each side, pick up 21 sts from RS and WS along rib fold row and work in St st. Dec 1 st at both ends on each row.
Work I-cord on rem 4 sts with desired length.
