Voluminous 18-Stitch Cable Knitting Pattern
Technique for knitting a voluminous cable
The cable is knitted in stockinette stitch.
To make the cable look voluminous, the upper moved stitches are knitted for a few extra rows.
The number of stitches in the cable and the number of additional rows may vary.
In our case, the cable consists of 18 stitches — 6 stitches for each cable section.
To move the cable section to the left, knit the first 12 stitches.
Then, using a cable needle, knit only the last 6 of these stitches for 3 more rows (wrong side, right side, wrong side), turning the work after each row.
The first and last stitches of the section are also knitted.
In the next right-side row, leave the stitches on the cable needle in front of the work.
Then knit the remaining 6 stitches of the cable.![]()
Next, knit the stitches from the cable needle.![]()
After that, knit all stitches for another 3 rows (wrong side, right side, wrong side) without crossings.
In the next right-side row, make the crossing to the right.
To do this, slip the first 6 stitches of the cable onto a cable needle and hold them behind the work.![]()
Knit the next 6 stitches of the cable for 4 rows (right side, wrong side, right side, wrong side), turning the work after each row.![]()
In the right-side row, knit these stitches once more, then knit the stitches from the cable needle and the remaining cable stitches.![]()
Continue knitting, alternating the crossings to the left and to the right every 3 or 5 rows.
