How to knit Fisherman's Rib Cable Stitch:

Multiple of 16 + 2 edge sts. 

Cast on 18 stitches (16 + 2 edge sts) and work according to chart.

The chart shows RS rows and WS row 2.

On WS rows, work as for Row 2.

The pat rep = 16 sts wide.

Abbreviations:

slstwithyo: slip 1 st with yo together pwise

kyotog: knit stitch with yo together

C8F: slip 4 sts to cable needle, hold to front, (slip 1 st with yo together pwise, knit stitch with yo together) twice, then (slip 1 st with yo together pwise, knit stitch with yo together) twice from cable needle

Row 1: edge st, * slstwithyo, k1, repeat from * to end of row, edge st.

Row 2 and all even-numbered rows: edge st, * slstwithyo, kyotog, repeat from * to end of row, edge st.

Rows 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13: edge st, * slstwithyo, kyotog, repeat from * to end of row, edge st.

Row 15: edge st, * C8F, (slstwithyo, kyotog) 4 times, repeat from * to end of row, edge st.

Rows 17, 19, 21, 23: edge st, * slstwithyo, kyotog, repeat from * to end of row, edge st.

Row 25: edge st, * (slstwithyo, kyotog) 4 times, C8F, repeat from * to end of row, edge st.

Work rows 1-26 once, then repeat rows 7-26 throughout.
