Easy Knitting Stitch for Beginners

Work with a multiple of 10 stitches + 2 + 2 edge stitches.

Cast on 14 stitches (10 + 2 + 2 edge stitches) and work according to chart.

The chart shows only Right Side Rows.

On Wrong Side Rows, work stitches as they appear; purl any yarn-over loops.

 

The pattern repeat = 10 stitches wide.

 

Begin with 1 edge stitch, work the pattern repeat throughout, end with 2 stitches after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.

 

k: knit

p: purl

yo: yarn over

k2tog: knit 2 stitches together as one

skpo: slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch 

 

Rows 1 and 3 (right side): edge st, * k7, p3 *; repeat from * to *; end with k2, edge st.

Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (wrong side): work stitches as they appear on this side of the work; purl any yarn-over loops.

Row 5: edge st, * k6, k2tog, yo, k2 *; repeat from * to *; end with k2, edge st.

Row 7: edge st, * k5, k2tog, yo, k3 *; repeat from * to *; end with k2, edge st.

Rows 9 and 11: edge st, * k2, p3, k5 *; repeat from * to *; end with k2, edge st.

Row 13: edge st, * k4, yo, skpo, k4 *; repeat from * to *; end with k2, edge st.

Row 15: edge st, * k5, yo, skpo, k3 *; repeat from * to *; end with k2, edge st.

Repeat Rows 1 through 16 for pattern.
