Checker Stitch Knitting Pattern
How to knit Checker Stitch:
Work with a multiple of 18 stitches + 2 edge stitches.
Cast on 20 stitches (18 + 2 edge stitches) and work according to сhart.
The chart shows Right Side rows and Wrong Side rows.
The numbers at right edge of chart indicate Right Side rows, and at left edge Wrong Side rows.
Read Right Side rows from right to left, Wrong Side rows from left to right.
 
The pattern repeat = 18 stitches wide.
Repeat pattern between edge stitches throughout.
 
Abbreviation:
k: Knit
p: Purl
K in st below (= k1b): Knit into stitch below, inserting needle from front through the st in the row below
loop + K2tog tbl: Insert needle between 1st and 2nd sts and pull out loop, K2tog through the back loop
 
Written Instruction:
Rows 1, 5 and 9 (right side): edge stitch, * (k1, p2) 3 times, k9 *; repeat from * to *; edge stitch.
Rows 2, 6 and 10 (wrong side): edge stitch, * p9, (k1, k in st below, p1) 3 times *; repeat from * to *; edge stitch.
Rows 3, 7 and 11: edge stitch, * (loop + K2tog tbl, p1) 3 times, k9 *; repeat from * to *; edge stitch.
Rows 4, 8 and 12: Purl.
Rows 13, 17 and 21: edge stitch, * k9, (k1, p2) 3 times *; repeat from * to *; edge stitch.
Rows 14, 18 and 22: edge stitch, * (k1, k in st below, p1) 3 times, p9 *; repeat from * to *; edge stitch.
