Checker Stitch Knitting Pattern

How to knit Checker Stitch:

Work with a multiple of 12 stitches + 6 + 2 edge stitches.

Cast on 20 sts (12 + 6 + 2 edge sts) and work according to chart.

The chart shows Right Side rows and Wrong Side rows.

The numbers at right edge of chart indicate RS rows, and at left edge WS rows.

Read RS rows from right to left, WS rows from left to right.

The patt rep = 12 sts wide.

yo: yarn over

k2tog: knit 2 stitches together

skpo: slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch 

Row 1 (RS): edge st, * yo, k4, k2tog, k5, p1 *; repeat from * to *; yo, k4, k2tog, edge st.

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 (WS): edge st, p6, * k6, p6 *; repeat from * to *; edge st.

Row 3: edge st, * k1, yo, k3, k2tog, k5, p1 *; repeat from * to *; k1, yo, k3, k2tog, edge st.

Row 5: edge st, * k2, yo, k2, k2tog, k5, p1 *; repeat from * to *; k2, yo, k2, k2tog, edge st.

Row 7: edge st, * k3, yo, k1, k2tog, k5, p1 *; repeat from * to *; k3, yo, k1, k2tog, edge st.

Row 9: edge st, * k4, yo, k2tog, k5, p1 *; repeat from * to *; k4, yo, k2tog, edge st.

Row 11: edge st, * k5, skpo, k4, yo, p1 *; repeat from * to *; k6, edge st.

Rows 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20: edge st, k6, * k1, p6, k5 *; repeat from * to *; edge st.

Row 13: edge st, * k5, skpo, k3, yo, k1, p1 *; repeat from * to *; k6, edge st.
