How to knit Checker Stitch:

Multiple of 18 + 4 + 2 selvage sts.

Cast on 24 sts (4 + 18 + 2 selvage sts) and work according to сhart.

The chart shows only RS rows.

On WS rows, work sts as they appear; work yo’s P.

The pat rep = 18 sts.

k2tog: knit 2 stitches together

skpo: slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch 

yo: yarn over

Row 1: knit all sts.

Row 3: edge st, p4, * p5, (k1, yo, skpo) 3 times, p4, repeat from *, edge st.

Row 5: edge st, k4, * k6, (k1, yo, skpo) 3 times, k3, repeat from *, edge st.

Row 7: edge st, p4, * p7, (k1, yo, skpo) 3 times, p2, repeat from *, edge st.

Row 9: edge st, k4, * k8, (k1, yo, skpo) 3 times, k1, repeat from *, edge st.

Row 11: edge st, p4, * p9, (k1, yo, skpo) 3 times, repeat from *, edge st.

Row 13: knit all sts.

Row 15: edge st, * p4, (k2tog, yo, k1) 3 times, p5, repeat from * to the last 5 sts, p4, edge st.

Row 17: edge st, * k3, (k2tog, yo, k1) 3 times, k6, repeat from * to the last 5 sts, k4, edge st.

Row 19: edge st, * p2, (k2tog, yo, k1) 3 times, p7, repeat from * to the last 5 sts, p4, edge st.

Row 21: edge st, * k1, (k2tog, yo, k1) 3 times, k8, repeat from * to the last 5 sts, k4, edge st.

Row 23: edge st, * (k2tog, yo, k1) 3 times, p9, repeat from * to the last 5 sts, p4, edge st.

Repeat Rows 1-24 throughout.
