How to knit a top with a combination of lace patterns:
This pattern guides you step by step through a light summer top featuring a variety of lace motifs.
Sizes: UK sizes 8 (10) 12 (14) 16 (18) / US sizes 4 (6) 8 (10) 12 (14)
Materials:
200 (200) 200 (250) 300 (300) g of yarn (100% mercerised cotton, 332 m/100 g), knitting needles and crochet hook size 3 mm (UK size 11 / US size 2½).
Garter stitch: knit all rows.
Stockinette stitch: knit on right side, purl on wrong side.
Lace patterns:
Work according to Charts 1–4, which show only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, work all stitches as they appear; purl all yarn overs.
Gauge: 24 stitches x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Back:
Cast on 103 (113) 123 (133) 143 (153) stitches. Work 3 rows in garter stitch and 4 rows in stockinette stitch.
Then work 32 rows in lace pattern from Chart 1 as follows: begin with the stitches before the repeat, work the 10-stitch repeat 9 (10) 11 (12) 13 (14) times, and end with the stitches after the repeat.
Work 2 rows in stockinette stitch. In the wrong-side row, decrease 1 stitch on each side, 1 stitch in from the edge.
Work 10 (10) 12 (12) 14 (14) rows in lace pattern from Chart 2 in the same way.
Work 2 rows in stockinette stitch, decreasing 1 stitch on each side as before.
Work 16 rows in lace pattern from Chart 3.
Work 4 rows in stockinette stitch.
Work 16 rows in lace pattern from Chart 4, increasing 1 stitch on each side in the last wrong-side row (1 stitch in from the edge).
Then work 14 (14) 16 (16) 18 (18) rows in lace pattern from Chart 2.
At the same time, when the piece measures 32 (31) 31 (30) 31 (30) cm from the cast-on edge, increase 3 stitches on each side = 111 (121) 131 (141) 151 (161) stitches.
From here, continue knitting the outermost 4 stitches on each side in garter stitch until the end, and continue working the rest in pattern.
Then work 16 rows in lace pattern from Chart 3, 2 rows in stockinette stitch, 16 rows in lace pattern from Chart 4, 4 rows in garter stitch, and bind off all stitches.
Front:
Work the same as the back.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams, leaving 30 cm open at the center for the neckline.
Sew side seams.
Crochet 1 round of double crochet (US single crochet) around the lower edge with the 3 mm crochet hook.
