Top in a Mix of Stitch Patterns

How to knit the Top in a Mix of Stitch Patterns:
Sizes: US 8–12 / UK 12–16 / EU 40–44
Materials:
500 g yarn (100% cotton, 151 yd per 1.76 oz skein); one US 1½ (2.5 mm) circular needle and one US 2½ (3.0 mm) circular needle.

Ribbing Pattern using US 1½ needles: * 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch *, repeat throughout.

All following patterns are worked using US 2½ needles.
Pattern 1:
Multiple of 18 stitches + 6 stitches + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to Chart 1.
Both right-side and wrong-side Rows are shown in the chart.
Across the row begin with 1 edge stitch, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, end with the stitches after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Repeat Rows 1–10 throughout.

Pattern 2:
Multiple of 18 stitches + 6 stitches + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to Chart 2.
On wrong-side Rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitches before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, end with the stitches after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Work Rows 1–52 once.

Pattern 3:
Multiple of 4 stitches + 2 stitches + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to Chart 3.
Begin with 1 edge stitch and the stitch before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, end with the stitch after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Repeat Rows 1–4 throughout.


Eyelet Band:
Multiple of 2 stitches + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to Chart 4.
Repeat the pattern repeat throughout and work Rows 1–6 once.

Pattern Sequence: * 30 Rows Pattern 1, 6 Rows Eyelet Band, 16 Rows Pattern 3, 52 Rows Pattern 2, 6 Rows Eyelet Band, repeat from * throughout.

Gauge: 25 stitches and 34.5 Rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).

Back:
Cast on 136 stitches and work 2¾ in (7 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 16 stitches evenly across the last Row = 152 stitches.
Continue in Pattern Sequence.
For the sleeve extensions, after 12¾ in = 110 Rows (32 cm) from the ribbing, increase at each side on every 2nd Row: 2 stitches twice, 4 stitches once, and 5 stitches twice = 188 stitches.
For the neckline, after 21 in = 184 Rows (53.5 cm) from the ribbing, bind off the center 32 stitches and finish each side separately.
Then bind off at the neckline edge on every 2nd Row: 3 stitches once and 2 stitches once.
Bind off the remaining 73 shoulder-sleeve stitches on each side after 21¾ in = 190 Rows (55 cm) from the ribbing.

Front:
Work as for Back, but for the deeper neckline, after 17¼ in = 152 Rows (44 cm) from the ribbing, bind off the center 20 stitches and at the neckline edge on every 2nd Row bind off: 3 stitches once, 2 stitches twice, and 1 stitch four times.

Finishing:
Join the seams.
Pick up 112 stitches around the neckline and 96 stitches along each sleeve edge.
Work 1 in (2.5 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, then bind off the stitches as they appear.
