Sweater with Lace Squares

How to knit the Sweater with Lace Squares:
Sizes: US 6/8 (10/12) 16/18
Finished measurements:
Bust: approx. 37.75 (44.5) 51.25 in.

Materials:
500 (500) 550 g cotton yarn (100% cotton; 125 m/50 g / 137 yds/1.76 oz); US 2 circular knitting needles; US C-2 crochet hook.

Garter Stitch: knit all stitches on right-side and wrong-side rows.
Lace Pattern:
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear and purl the yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1–36 throughout.
Lace Squares:
Work according to chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear or as indicated, purl the yarn overs.
Begin with 2 (0) stitches before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, finish according to chart.
Repeat rows 1–24 throughout.
Crochet Edging: 1 round single crochet, 1 round double crochet, 1 round (= * 1 double crochet, 1 chain stitch, skip 1 base stitch, repeat from * throughout); 1 round double crochet.

Pattern Sequence:
Rows 1–60 and rows 129–188: edge stitch, 0 (8) 16 stitches Lace Squares, 41 stitches Lace Pattern, 40 stitches Lace Squares, 41 stitches Lace Pattern, 0 (8) 16 stitches Lace Squares, while arranging the stitches symmetrically to beginning of row, edge stitch;
Rows 61–64, rows 125–128 and rows 189–192: Garter Stitch;
Rows 65–124: edge stitch, 0 (9) 17 stitches Lace Pattern (for sizes US 10/12 and 16/18 increase 1 stitch from the Lace Squares in row 1, * decrease 1 stitch over the following 41 stitches in row 1 = 40 stitches Lace Squares ** , increase 1 stitch over the following 40 stitches in row 1 = 41 stitches Lace Pattern, repeat from * to ** once, 0 (9) 17 stitches Lace Pattern, arrange the stitches symmetrically to beginning of row, edge stitch.
Note! Work the increased or decreased stitches in the last row.


Gauge: 23 stitches and 33.5 rows = 4 x 4 in.

Front:
Cast on 122 (138) 154 stitches + 2 edge stitches and work in the specified pattern sequence.
After 19.25 in. from cast-on edge, bind off the center 40 stitches for neckline and finish both sides separately.
After 22.5 in. from cast-on edge, bind off remaining shoulder stitches.

Back:
Work as Front, but with a shallower neckline.
For this, after 20.75 in. from cast-on edge, bind off the center 40 stitches.

Sleeves:
Cast on 74 stitches + 2 edge stitches and work as follows: edge stitch, 17 stitches Lace Pattern, 40 stitches Lace Squares, 17 stitches Lace Pattern, edge stitch.
At the same time, for sleeve shaping increase on both sides from cast-on edge 4 (4) 0 x 1 stitch every 4th row and 20 (20) 28 x 1 stitch every 2nd row, incorporating increased stitches into pattern.
After 7 in. from cast-on edge, bind off all stitches.

Finishing:
Join shoulder seams.
Join side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.
Crochet all edges of the Sweater with the edging pattern.
At neckline corners work as follows: skip 2-3 base stitches in corners and work 2 stitches together.
