Summer Sweater with Short Sleeves

How to knit the Sweater with Short Sleeves:
Sizes: US 4/6 (US 14/16) US 24/26
Finished measurements: UK 8/10 (UK 18/20) UK 28/30, Europe 34/36 (42/44) 54/56
Materials:
550 (650) 700 g cotton yarn (100% cotton; 126 yards/50 g); straight knitting needles US 2.5 (3.0 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm); short circular needle US 2.5 (3.0 mm).

Garter Stitch, US 2.5 needles: knit all stitches on right-side and wrong-side rows; when working in the round, alternate 1 round knit stitches and 1 round purl stitches.

Work all following patterns with US 4 needles.
Lace Pattern 1: multiple of 12 stitches + 7 stitches.
Work according to Chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work all stitches as they appear and work the yarn overs as indicated.
Begin with the stitches before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, end with 1 stitch after the pattern repeat.
Work Rows 1 and 2 a total of 52 times, then repeat Rows 3–16 throughout.

Lace Pattern 2:
Work as Lace Pattern 1, but according to Chart 2.
Begin with 1 stitch before the pattern repeat, repeat the pattern repeat throughout, end with the stitches after the pattern repeat.

Lace Pattern 3: multiple of 20 stitches + 7 stitches.
Work as Lace Pattern 1, but according to Chart 3.
Work the pattern repeat twice, end with the stitches after the pattern repeat.
Repeat Rows 1–16 throughout.


Average Gauge: 26 stitches and 32 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).

Back:
Cast on 135 (159) 183 stitches and work 3/4 inch (2 cm) in Garter Stitch for the lower band.
Then arrange the stitches as follows: 1 edge stitch, 43 (55) 67 stitches of Lace Pattern 1, 47 stitches of Lace Pattern 3, 43 (55) 67 stitches of Lace Pattern 2, 1 edge stitch.
After 14 1/2 inches = 118 rows (14 1/2 inches = 118 rows) 15 1/4 inches = 124 rows from the lower band, bind off 12 stitches at each side for the armholes = 111 (135) 159 stitches.
Continue straight.
After 23 1/2 inches = 192 rows (23 1/2 inches = 192 rows) 25 1/4 inches = 204 rows from the lower band, bind off the center 39 (39) 43 stitches for the neck and finish both sides separately.
For neck shaping, bind off 4 stitches once and 3 stitches once at the neck edge in every second row.
After 24 1/2 inches = 198 rows (24 1/2 inches = 198 rows) 26 inches = 210 rows from the lower band, bind off the remaining 29 (41) 51 shoulder stitches on each side.

Front:
Work as for the Back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, after 21 1/4 inches = 172 rows (21 1/4 inches = 172 rows) 22 3/4 inches = 184 rows from the lower band, bind off the center 17 (17) 21 stitches and then in every second row bind off 4 stitches once, 3 stitches once, 2 stitches three times and 1 stitch four times, then in the following fourth row bind off 1 stitch once.

Sleeves:
Cast on 86 (86) 110 stitches for each sleeve and work 3/4 inch (2 cm) in Garter Stitch for the cuff.
Then work Lace Pattern 1, repeating the pattern repeat between the edge stitches and Rows 3–16 throughout.
For the sleeve shaping, increase 1 stitch at each side 4 times in every second row and 18 times alternately in every second and fourth row (increase 1 stitch at each side 4 times in every second row and 18 times alternately in every second and fourth row) increase 1 stitch at each side 15 times in every fourth row, incorporating the increased stitches into the pattern = 130 (130) 140 stitches.
After 10 inches = 80 rows from the cuff, bind off all stitches.

Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Pick up 108 (108) 116 stitches around the neckline with the circular needle, work 3/4 inch (2 cm) in Garter Stitch and bind off all stitches.
Set in the sleeves, sew the side seams and sleeve seams.
