How to knit Summer Sweater with Leaf and Cable Pattern:
Sizes: US 4/6 (8/10) 12/14, UK 8/10 (12/14) 16/18, EU 34/36 (38/40) 44/46
Materials:
500 (550) 600 g (17.6 (19.4) 21.2 oz) yarn (68% cotton, 32% silk, 115 yd/1.75 oz); straight knitting needles US 2.5 and US 6; circular knitting needle US 2.5.
Garter Stitch, US 2.5 needles: knit all stitches on right-side and wrong-side rows; in the round, work alternately 1 round knit stitches and 1 round purl stitches.
Work all following patterns with US 6 needles.
Stockinette Stitch: right-side rows knit stitches, wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Reverse Stockinette Stitch: right-side rows purl stitches, wrong-side rows knit stitches.
Horizontal Rib Pattern: alternate 2 rows Reverse Stockinette Stitch and 6 rows Stockinette Stitch.
Leaf and Cable Pattern (main pattern): multiple of 16 or 32 stitches + 1 stitch.
Work according to chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear and purl the yarn overs.
From Row 1 through Row 32, begin with the stitches before Pattern Repeat A, repeat Pattern Repeat A throughout, end with the stitches after Pattern Repeat A; from Row 33 through Row 42, repeat Pattern Repeat B throughout and end with the stitches after Pattern Repeat B.
Work Rows 1 through 42 once, then repeat Rows 35 through 42 throughout.
Average gauge: 23.5 stitches and 27.5 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 115 (131) 147 stitches and work 2 cm (0.8 inch) = 5 rows in Garter Stitch.
Then arrange the stitches as follows:
Rows 1–32: 1 edge stitch, 113 (129) 145 stitches of the main pattern, 1 edge stitch;
all remaining rows: 1 edge stitch, 8 (0) 8 stitches Horizontal Rib Pattern, 97 (129) 129 stitches of the main pattern, 8 (0) 8 stitches Horizontal Rib Pattern, 1 edge stitch.
After 48 cm (19 inches) = 132 rows (48 cm (19 inches) = 132 rows) 51 cm (20 inches) = 140 rows from the lower band, bind off the center 23 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
For neckline shaping, bind off 5 stitches twice at the inner edge in every second row.
After 50 cm (19.75 inches) = 138 rows (50 cm (19.75 inches) = 138 rows) 53 cm (20.75 inches) = 146 rows from the lower band, bind off the remaining 36 (44) 50 stitches for each shoulder.
Front:
Work as for the Back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, after 41 cm (16.25 inches) = 112 rows (41 cm (16.25 inches) = 112 rows) 44 cm (17.25 inches) = 120 rows from the lower band, bind off the center 11 (11) 15 stitches and then bind off in every second row 3 stitches twice, 2 stitches twice and 1 stitch six times.
Sleeves:
Cast on 83 stitches and work 2 cm (0.8 inch) = 5 rows in Garter Stitch.
Continue in the main pattern.
For sleeve shaping, increase at both sides from the lower band 1 stitch 6 (6) 18 times alternately in every second and fourth row, then increase 1 stitch 11 (11) 2 times in every fourth row, incorporating the increased stitches into the Horizontal Rib Pattern = 117 (117) 123 stitches.
After 25 cm (9.75 inches) = 68 rows from the lower band, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Using the circular needle, pick up 98 (98) 106 stitches around the neckline, work 2 cm (0.8 inch) in Garter Stitch, then bind off all stitches.
Set in the sleeves, sew the side seams and sleeve seams.
