Summer Lace Sweater
How to knit the Lace Sweater:
Sizes: US 4/6 (8/10) 16/18, UK 8/10 (12/14) 20/22, EU 34/36 (38/40) 46/48
Materials:
600 (650) 750 g yarn (55% cotton, 45% acrylic; 66 yards per 1.76 ounces); knitting needles: US 7 (4.5 mm) and US 8 (5 mm); crochet hook US 7 (4.5 mm).
Garter Stitch, US 7 (4.5 mm) needles: knit all stitches on right-side and wrong-side rows.
Lace Pattern, US 8 (5 mm) needles: multiple of 10 stitches + 1 stitch + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work stitches as they appear; purl the yarn overs.
Begin with 1 edge stitch, repeat the pattern throughout, end with the stitch after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
Pattern Sequence 1: work Rows 1–78 once, then repeat Rows 75–78 throughout.
Pattern Sequence 2: work Rows 1–18 once and Rows 73–78 once, then repeat Rows 75–78 throughout.
Gauge: 13 stitches and 21 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 63 (73) 83 stitches and work 3/8 inch (1 cm) = 2 rows in Garter Stitch for the lower border.
Continue in Lace Pattern following Pattern Sequence 1.
At 24 inches (61 cm) = 128 rows from the border, bind off all stitches.
Front:
Work as for the Back until the neckline.
At 21¾ inches (55 cm) = 116 rows from the border, bind off the center 7 (9) 11 stitches and complete each side separately.
Shape the neckline by binding off at the inside edge on every other row 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, and 1 stitch twice.
Bind off the remaining 21 (25) 29 shoulder stitches at the same height as the Back.
Sleeves:
Cast on 43 (43) 53 stitches and work 3/8 inch (1 cm) = 2 rows in Garter Stitch for the cuff.
Continue in Lace Pattern following Pattern Sequence 2.
At the same time, shape the sleeves by increasing 1 stitch at each side 8 (7) 9 times on every 4th row and 2 (4) 0 times on every 2nd row, incorporating the increased stitches into the pattern = 63 (65) 71 stitches.
At 7¼ inches (18 cm) = 38 rows from the cuff, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Work 1 round of single crochet and 1 round of reverse single crochet (crab stitch, worked from left to right) around the neckline.
Set in the sleeves, then sew the side and sleeve seams.
