Gauge:
Overall gauge: 25 stitches and 34 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in);
Cable A: 4 cm (1.6 in) wide.
Written pattern:
The sweater is worked in one piece from sleeve to sleeve.
For the left sleeve, cast on 58 stitches and work 2 cm (0.8 in) in garter stitch, in the last row evenly increase 20 stitches = 78 stitches.
Continue as follows: 4 stitches reverse stockinette stitch, 18 stitches Cable A, 4 stitches reverse stockinette stitch, 26 stitches horizontal stripes, 4 stitches reverse stockinette stitch, 18 stitches Cable A, 4 stitches reverse stockinette stitch.
At the same time, starting from the cuff, increase on both sides for the sleeve shaping 27 times alternately in every 4th and 6th row by 1 stitch, working the increased stitches into the pattern = 132 stitches.
Work the increased stitches as follows: 4 stitches stockinette stitch, 2 stitches reverse stockinette stitch, 14 stitches Zigzag (on the right side start with row 23 of the chart, on the left side with row 1), 7 stitches reverse stockinette stitch.
After 40 cm (15.7 in) = 136 rows from the cuff, increase on both sides once by 100 stitches = 332 stitches.
Work the increased stitches as follows: 1 stitch reverse stockinette stitch, 57 stitches pattern with cables and diamonds, 15 stitches reverse stockinette stitch, 2 stitches stockinette stitch, 10 stitches Cable B, 14 stitches horizontal stripes, edge stitch.
After 59.5 cm (23.4 in) = 202 rows from the cuff, divide the work in the middle and place the back stitches on hold.
For the front neckline, bind off at the inner edge once 5 stitches, then in every 2nd row bind off once 3 stitches, once 2 stitches and once 1 stitch = 155 stitches.
After 69 cm (27.2 in) = 235 rows from the cuff, the center of the sweater is reached.
Then finish the front neckline symmetrically, that is after 77 cm (30.3 in) = 262 rows from the cuff increase once 1 stitch, then in every 2nd row increase once 2 stitches, once 3 stitches and once 5 stitches.
Then place the front stitches on hold and work the back neckline.
For this, bind off at the inner edge once 3 stitches, then in the following 2nd row once 1 stitch.
After 78 cm (30.7 in) = 266 rows from the cuff, increase at the inner edge once 1 stitch and in the following 2nd row once 3 stitches.
Then join the front and back stitches and over all 332 stitches finish the sweater symmetrically, that is the increases become decreases.
After 138 cm (54.3 in) = 470 rows from the cuff, evenly decrease 20 stitches and work the remaining 58 stitches for another 2 cm (0.8 in) in garter stitch, then bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Along the neckline, pick up 122 stitches on circular needles and work 10 cm (3.9 in) in horizontal stripes, then work another 2 cm (0.8 in) in garter stitch, then bind off all stitches.
Sew side seams and sleeve seams.
Along the lower edge of the sweater, pick up 200 stitches and work 1 round knit stitches and 1 round purl stitches, then bind off all stitches as purl stitches.
