Short-Sleeve Lace Sweater

How to knit the Lace Sweater with Short Sleeves:
Sizes: US 4/6 (8/10) (12/14), UK 8/10 (12/14) (16/18), EU 36/38 (40/42) (44/46)
Materials:
450 (500) (550) grams of yarn (100% cotton; 126 yards per 1.76 ounces);
US 4 (3.5 mm) circular knitting needles.

Lace Pattern (Main Pattern):
Work with a multiple of 14 stitches + 2 edge stitches.
Rows 1, 3 and 4: purl all stitches.
Row 2: knit all stitches.
Row 5: 1 edge stitch, * slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 stitch and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch; knit 5 stitches; from the following horizontal strand work 6 stitches (alternately knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch); knit 5 stitches; knit 2 stitches together *; repeat from * throughout; end with 1 edge stitch.
Row 6: 1 edge stitch, * purl 2 stitches together; purl 14 stitches; purl 2 stitches together through the back loops *; repeat from * throughout; end with 1 edge stitch.
Row 7: 1 edge stitch, * slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 stitch and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch; knit 4 stitches; 5 times yarn over, knit 1 stitch; yarn over; knit 3 stitches; knit 2 stitches together *; repeat from * throughout; end with 1 edge stitch.
Row 8: 1 edge stitch, * purl 2 stitches together; purl 16 stitches; purl 2 stitches together through the back loops *; repeat from * throughout; end with 1 edge stitch.
Row 9: 1 edge stitch, * slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 stitch and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch; knit 14 stitches; knit 2 stitches together *; repeat from * throughout; end with 1 edge stitch.
Row 10: 1 edge stitch, * purl 2 stitches together; purl 12 stitches; purl 2 stitches together through the back loops *; repeat from * throughout; end with 1 edge stitch.
Repeat Rows 1–10 throughout.


Gauge: 24 stitches × 30 rows = 4 × 4 inches (10 × 10 centimeters).

Front:
Cast on 128 (142) (156) stitches and work in the Main Pattern.
When the piece measures 12.6 inches (32 centimeters), bind off 5 stitches at each side for the armholes, then on every second row bind off 2 times 3 stitches and 3 times 1 stitch.
When the piece measures 18.9 inches (48 centimeters), bind off the center 12 stitches for the neckline, then on each side on every second row bind off 1 time 4 stitches, 1 time 3 stitches, 2 times 2 stitches and 4 times 1 stitch.
When the piece measures 21.3 inches (54 centimeters), bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.

Back:
Work as the Front, but with a higher neckline.
When the piece measures 20.5 inches (52 centimeters), bind off the center 36 stitches, then on each side on every second row bind off 1 time 2 stitches and 1 time 1 stitch.

Sleeves:
Cast on 86 stitches and work in the Main Pattern.
Beginning with Row 7, increase 1 stitch at each side alternately on every second and fourth row 18 times, working the new stitches into the pattern = 122 stitches.
When the sleeve measures 8.7 inches (22 centimeters), bind off 6 stitches at each side, then on every second row bind off 2 times 6 stitches and 4 times 8 stitches.
When the sleeve measures 10.6 inches (27 centimeters), bind off the remaining stitches loosely.

Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Center the sleeves and sew them into the armholes.
Sew the remaining seams.
Pick up 96 stitches around the neckline and work 6 rounds knit, 1 eyelet round (= knit 2 stitches together, yarn over throughout), then 6 rounds knit.
Bind off all stitches.
Fold the neckband to the inside and sew it in place.
