Short Lace Pattern Sweater
How to knit the Lace Pattern Sweater:
Sizes: EU 36–40 (UK 8–12 / US 4–8) and EU 42–46 (UK 14–18 / US 10–14)
Materials:
450 (550) g yarn (100% superfine merino wool, 164 yd / 50 g); knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4); crochet hook 3 mm (US C).
Stockinette Stitch: Right-side rows knit stitches, wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Lace Pattern over 9 stitches:
Work according to chart.
The chart shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear and purl the yarn overs.
Repeat the 9 stitches and 8 rows throughout.
Check Pattern:
Rows 1–8: 27 stitches Lace Pattern.
Rows 9–40: 9 stitches Lace Pattern, 18 stitches Stockinette Stitch.
Rows 41–48: 27 stitches Lace Pattern.
Repeat rows 1–48 throughout.
Crocheted Arches:
Round 1: single crochet.
Round 2: 1 slip stitch into the first single crochet, *chain 5, skip 3 single crochet of previous round, 1 slip stitch into the next single crochet*.
Round 3: *chain 2, 1 slip stitch into the center of the arch of the previous round, chain 3, repeat from * throughout.
Work round 3 four times.
Gauge:
In Check Pattern: 21 stitches and 34.5 rows = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in).
Back:
Cast on 92 (102) stitches and work in Check Pattern.
For size EU 42–46 begin after the edge stitch with the last 5 stitches of the Lace Pattern at point C.
For side shaping increase 1 stitch at both sides in every 7th (6th) row 11 (13) times.
Work straight after 23 cm (9.1 in) from the cast-on edge.
27 (28) cm (10.6 (11 in)) after finishing the increases bind off the middle 26 stitches for the neckline.
Finish both shoulders separately.
At the neckline edge bind off 4 stitches twice in every second row.
Bind off the remaining stitches straight when the piece measures 29 (30) cm (11.4 (11.8 in)) after finishing the increases.
Front:
Work as Back but with a deeper neckline.
For this bind off the middle 12 stitches 19 (20) cm (7.5 (7.9 in)) after finishing the side increases.
Finish both shoulders separately.
At the neckline edge bind off 4 stitches once, 3 stitches once and 2 stitches four times in every second row.
Bind off the remaining stitches straight when the neckline depth measures 10 cm (4 in).
Sleeves:
Cast on 46 (50) stitches for each sleeve and work in Check Pattern.
After the edge stitch work the last 4 (6) stitches of the Check Pattern (begin the Lace Pattern at A (B)).
For sleeve shaping increase 1 stitch at both sides in every 4th row 22 times and in every 3rd row 16 times.
Bind off all stitches straight when the sleeve measures 40 cm (15.7 in) from the cast-on edge.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Insert the sleeves, making sure the center of the sleeve aligns with the shoulder seam.
Sew sleeve seams and side seams.
Work the crocheted arches around the neckline, the lower edge and the sleeve edges.
Finally steam all seams lightly.
