Lightweight Cardigan with Short Sleeves

How to knit a lightweight cardigan with short sleeves:
Sizes: EU 42/44 (38/40) – UK 14/16 (10/12) – US 10/12 (6/8)
Materials:
550 (500) g yarn (50% cotton, 50% acrylic, 137 yds/1.76 oz); circular needles US 6 (4 mm); crochet hook US E-4 (3.5 mm); 6 buttons.

Garter stitch: right-side and wrong-side rows – knit stitches.
Lace panel (6 in wide):
Work according to chart, which shows only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear or as indicated, purl the yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1 to 48 throughout.

Gauge: 22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm).

Left front:
Cast on 68 (64) stitches and work 1 wrong-side row purl.
Continue in the following distribution: 18 (14) stitches garter stitch, 38 stitches lace panel, 12 stitches garter stitch.
After 13.5 in (34 cm) from cast-on, for the neckline slope bind off 1 stitch on the left side, then alternately in every 4th and 6th row 12 times 1 stitch.
After 22 in (56 cm) from cast-on, bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.

Right front: work symmetrically.

Back:
Cast on 136 (128) stitches and work 1 wrong-side row purl.
Continue in the following distribution: 18 (14) stitches garter stitch, 38 stitches lace panel, 24 stitches garter stitch, 38 stitches lace panel, 18 (14) stitches garter stitch.
After 21.25 in (54 cm) from cast-on, for the neckline bind off the middle 14 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For the rounding of the neckline, bind off from the inner edge in every 2nd row 1 time 4 stitches and 1 time 2 stitches.
Bind off the remaining shoulder stitches at the same height as the fronts.


Sleeves:
Cast on 90 stitches each and work 1 wrong-side row purl.
Continue in the following distribution: 26 stitches garter stitch, 38 stitches lace panel, 26 stitches garter stitch.
At the same time, for sleeve shaping increase on both sides, starting from cast-on, 13 times 1 stitch alternately in every 2nd and 4th row.
Work the increased stitches in garter stitch = 116 stitches.
After 5.5 in (14 cm) from cast-on, bind off all stitches.

Finishing:
Join shoulder seams.
Set in sleeves, matching the center to the shoulder seam.
Join side seams and sleeve seams.
Crochet all edges of the cardigan with 2 rounds single crochet and 1 round crab stitch (single crochet from left to right).
At the same time on the right front, evenly make 6 buttonholes in the 2nd round (= skip 1 stitch of the previous round, 1 chain stitch).
Sew on buttons.
