Leaf Stitch Sweater

How to knit the Leaf Stitch Sweater:
Sizes: US 8/10 (12/14), UK 12/14 (16/18), EU 38/40 (42/44)
Materials:
600 (650) g cotton yarn (100% cotton; 115 (120) yds/50 g); US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 6 (4 mm) circular knitting needles; US C-2 (3 mm) crochet hook.

Stockinette Stitch: knit on right-side rows, purl on wrong-side rows.

Leaf Stitch Pattern:
Work according to Chart 1.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and the yarn overs.

Lower Border Pattern:
Work according to Chart 2.
On wrong-side rows, work stitches as they appear or as indicated.
Work Rows 1–30 once.

Gauge: 21.5 stitches and 30 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).

Front:
Cast on 121 (133) stitches using US 4 (3.5 mm) circular knitting needles and work 1 wrong-side row knit.
Then work according to Chart 2 and arrange the stitches as follows: work the 6 stitches before the pattern repeat once, work the pattern repeat 9 (10) times, then work the 7 stitches after the pattern repeat once.
Work Rows 1–30 once in this arrangement, changing to US 6 (4 mm) circular knitting needles from Row 14.


Continue in Stockinette Stitch.
After 4⅜ inches (11 cm) from the lower border, begin the Leaf Stitch Pattern over the center 5 stitches according to Chart 1.
Continue following the chart until the Leaf Stitch Pattern extends across the entire width.
Take care that no row contains more yarn overs than decreases.
At the same time, when the total length measures 24⅜ inches (62 cm), bind off the center 13 stitches for the neckline, then bind off at each side on every second row 4 stitches once, 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once and 1 stitch once.
Bind off the remaining shoulder stitches when the total length measures 26¾ inches (68 cm).

Back:
Work as for the Front, but with a higher neckline.
When the total length measures 26 inches (66 cm), bind off the center 19 stitches, then bind off at each side on every second row 4 stitches once and 3 stitches once.

Sleeves:
Cast on 86 (98) stitches using US 4 (3.5 mm) circular knitting needles and work 1 wrong-side row knit.
Then work according to Chart 2 and arrange the stitches as follows: 1 edge stitch, work the pattern repeat 7 (8) times, 1 edge stitch.
Work Rows 1–30 once in this arrangement, changing to US 6 (4 mm) circular knitting needles from Row 14.
Continue in Stockinette Stitch.
At the same time, increase 1 stitch at each side on every fourth row 10 times in pattern = 106 (118) stitches.
When the total length measures 6¼ inches (16 cm), bind off all stitches.

Finishing:
Join the shoulder seams.
Center the sleeves and sew them in place.
Join the remaining seams.
Crochet 1 round of single crochet and 1 round of reverse single crochet (work single crochet from left to right) around the neckline.
