Lace Stitch Pullover with Mixed Patterns
How to knit the lace stitch pullover with mixed patterns:
Sizes: M (US 8–10 / UK 12–14) and L (US 12–14 / UK 16–18).
Materials: 800 (900) g of yarn (100% cotton; 128 yds/1.75 oz). Knitting needles size US 4 (3.5 mm); circular needles size US 2½ (3 mm), 16 in (40 cm) long.
Lace Leaf Pattern, needles size US 4 (3.5 mm):
Work according to Chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Vertical Lace Stripes, needles size US 4 (3.5 mm): number of stitches multiple of 14 + 1 + 2 edge stitches.
Row 1 (RS): edge st, 1 knit, * 1 yarn over, 5 knit, slip 2 stitches together knitwise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitches over (center stitch on top), 5 knit, 1 yarn over, 1 knit, repeat from *, edge st.
Row 2 (WS): purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Repeat Rows 1–2 throughout.
Lace Pattern, needles size US 4 (3.5 mm):
Work according to Chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Lace Cable Pattern, needles size US 4 (3.5 mm):
Work according to Chart 3, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Repeat Rows 1–16 throughout.
Gauge:
Vertical lace stripes, lace leaves, and lace pattern: 25 sts and 30 rows = 4 x 4 in.
Lace cable pattern: 27 sts and 30 rows = 4 x 4 in.
Horizontal Lace Stripe, needles size US 4 (3.5 mm): 14 rows = 1½ in high.
Rows 1–5: reverse stockinette stitch = RS rows purl, WS rows knit.
Row 6 (WS): purl.
Row 7: edge st, * knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, repeat from *, 1 knit, edge st.
Row 8: purl.
Row 9: knit.
Rows 10–13: reverse stockinette stitch.
Row 14: purl.
Back:
Cast on 143 (157) sts and work in the following pattern sequence:
Row 1 (WS): knit.
18 rows of vertical lace stripes,
14 rows of horizontal lace stripe,
24 rows of lace leaf pattern,
14 rows of horizontal lace stripe,
52 rows of lace pattern,
14 rows of horizontal lace stripe.
Work the lace leaves and lace pattern as follows: edge st, stitches before repeat, 9 (10) pattern repeats, stitches after repeat, edge st.
In Row 14 of the last horizontal stripe, increase evenly 9 (15) sts = 152 (172) sts.
Continue with the lace cable pattern as follows: edge st, 7 (8) repeats, first 10 sts of the pattern, edge st.
When work measures 29 in, bind off the center 52 sts for the neckline and on each side, bind off 3 sts twice every other row.
At 30 in total length, bind off remaining shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for back, but when work measures 27 in, bind off the center 32 sts for the neckline and on each side bind off 3 sts twice, 2 sts four times, and 1 st twice every other row.
At 30 in total length, bind off remaining shoulder stitches.
Sleeves:
Cast on 59 sts and knit Row 1 (WS).
Then work 18 rows of vertical lace stripes, evenly increasing 16 sts in the last row = 75 sts.
Next, work 14 rows of horizontal lace stripe, 24 rows of lace leaf pattern, and 14 rows of horizontal lace stripe.
Place the leaf pattern in the center and fill out both sides accordingly.
At the same time, after the vertical lace stripes, increase 1 st on each side every 4th row 12 times = 99 sts.
Also, in Row 14 of the 2nd horizontal stripe, increase evenly 9 sts = 108 sts.
Continue with the lace cable pattern, placing the central cable in the middle (= sts 3–8 of the pattern), and fill out both sides accordingly.
At the same time, increase for sleeve shaping on both sides:
for size M every 4th row 6 times 1 st, then alternately every 2nd and 4th row 14 times 1 st;
for size L alternately every 2nd and 4th row 14 times 1 st, then every 2nd row 12 times 1 st = 148 (160) sts.
When work measures 18 in, bind off all stitches.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder and side seams, set in sleeves.
Along neckline, pick up approximately 120 sts on circular needles and work 2 in in stockinette stitch.
