Lace Pattern Sweater

How to knit the Lace Pattern Sweater:
Sizes: UK 10/12 (18/20), US 6/8 (14/16), EU 36/38 (44/46).
Materials:
500 (550) g yarn (40% cotton, 37% silk, 23% linen; 98 yd/50 g); 3 mm and 3.5 mm (UK 11 and 9, US 2½ and 4) knitting needles; 3 mm (UK 11, US 2½) circular needle, 16 inches (40 cm) long.

Ribbing Pattern, 3 mm needles: Work alternately 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.

Lace Pattern (Main Pattern), 3.5 mm needles:
Work according to the chart, which shows right-side and wrong-side rows.
Read right-side rows from right to left and wrong-side rows from left to right.
Repeat Rows 1–24 throughout.

Gauge: 20 stitches and 28 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).

Back:
Cast on 86 (102) stitches and work 2 inches (5 cm) in Ribbing Pattern, increasing 19 stitches evenly across the last row = 105 (121) stitches.
Continue in the Main Pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch, 6 (7) pattern repeats, finish with the stitches after the pattern repeat and 1 edge stitch.
When the piece measures 13½ (13¾) inches (34 (35) cm) from the cast-on edge, for the short sleeves increase at both sides in every second row: 1 stitch once, 2 stitches twice and 3 stitches twice = 127 (143) stitches.
When the piece measures 23½ (24½) inches (60 (62) cm), shape the shoulders by binding off at both sides in every second row 6 stitches twice and 7 stitches four times (8 stitches six times).
At the same time, when the piece measures 24½ (25¼) inches (62 (64) cm), for the neckline bind off the centre 31 stitches, then at each side of the neckline bind off in every second row 6 stitches once and 2 stitches once.


Front:
Work as for the Back, but with a deeper neckline.
When the piece measures 23¼ (24) inches (59 (61) cm), bind off the centre 17 stitches, then at each side of the neckline bind off in every second row 4 stitches once, 3 stitches twice, 2 stitches twice and 1 stitch once.
At the same time, when the piece measures 23½ (24½) inches (60 (62) cm), shape the shoulders as for the Back.

Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams.
Pick up 86 (90) stitches evenly around each sleeve edge and work 1¼ inches (3 cm) in Ribbing Pattern.
Sew the side seams.
Using the circular needle, pick up 118 stitches evenly around the neckline and work 1¼ inches (3 cm) in Ribbing Pattern. At each shoulder seam mark 1 stitch and in every second round slip the marked stitch together with the previous stitch as if to knit, knit 1 stitch and pass the slipped stitches over the knitted stitch.
