Lace Cardigan with Buttons
How to knit the lace cardigan:
Size: L–XL (US 12–16 / UK 16–20)
Measurements: Bust approx. 102–112 cm (40–44 in)
Materials:
600 g yarn (50% wool, 50% acrylic, 260 m / 284 yd per 100 g), knitting needles 2.5 mm (US 1–2), crochet hook 2 mm (US B-1), 6 buttons.
Ribbing Pattern: alternate 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.
Lace Pattern:
Work according to the chart, which shows only right-side rows.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Gauge: 22 stitches x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in).
Back:
Cast on 130 stitches and work 3 cm (1.2 in) in Ribbing Pattern.
Continue in Lace Pattern.
At a height of 46 cm (18.1 in), for armholes bind off on both sides in every second row 1 time 4 stitches, 1 time 2 stitches, 4 times 1 stitch = 110 stitches.
Continue straight.
At a height of 69 cm (27.2 in), bind off all stitches.
Right Front:
Cast on 67 stitches and work as for the back, making the armhole decreases on the right side.
At a height of 58 cm (22.8 in), for the neckline bind off first 8 stitches, then in every second row 1 time 4 stitches, 1 time 2 stitches, 2 times 1 stitch.
Work the remaining stitches for another 3 cm (1.2 in) and bind off.
Work the left front in mirror image.
Sleeve:
Cast on 58 stitches and work 3 cm (1.2 in) in Ribbing Pattern.
Continue in Lace Pattern.
For sleeve shaping, starting from row 25, increase on both sides in every sixth row 15 times 1 stitch = 82 stitches.
For sleeve cap, after 43 cm (16.9 in) from cast-on, bind off on both sides in every second row 1 time 4 stitches, 1 time 2 stitches, 1 time 2 stitches, 12 times 1 stitch, 2 times 2 stitches, 1 time 4 stitches and 1 time the remaining 26 stitches.
Work the second sleeve in the same way.
Finishing:
Work shoulder seams.
Crochet around the neckline with 2 rows of single crochet, and around the front edges with 8 rows of single crochet.
On the right front, make 6 buttonholes evenly spaced.
Work side seams and sleeve seams. Set in the sleeves.
Sew on the buttons.
