Lace Cardigan Knitting Pattern

Size: U.S. 12–14 / U.K. 16–18.  

Materials:  

400 g of yarn (50% wool, 50% acrylic; 220 m per 50 g). Knitting needles size U.S. 4 / U.K. 9 (3.5 mm). Crochet hook size U.S. E/4 / U.K. 9 (3.5 mm).  

Lace Pattern:  

Work according to chart 1, which shows only right-side rows.  

On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl all yarn overs.  

Repeat rows 1 to 20 throughout in height.  

Eyelet Pattern:  

Work according to chart 2, which shows only right-side rows.  

On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl all yarn overs.  

Repeat rows 1 to 12 throughout in height.  

Gauge: 14 stitches and 18 rows = 10 x 10 cm.  

Back:  

Cast on 75 stitches and work 20 rows in lace pattern.  

Continue in eyelet pattern.  

When work measures 42 cm from the beginning, shape the armholes by binding off 4 stitches at each side, then 1 stitch twice at each side in every second row = 63 stitches.  

When work measures 59 cm, bind off the center 27 stitches for the neck and finish each side separately.  

To round the neckline, bind off 7 stitches and then 5 stitches at the inner edge in every second row.  

When work measures 62 cm, bind off the remaining 6 stitches for each shoulder.  

Right front:  

Cast on 39 stitches and work 20 rows in lace pattern.  

Then continue as follows: edge stitch, 13 stitches in lace pattern (work the 13th stitch in row 9 as the last stitch of the chart – slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over), 24 stitches in eyelet pattern, edge stitch.  

When work measures 40 cm from the beginning, shape the neckline by working the 13th and 14th stitches from the edge together with a slip-slip-pass-over decrease in every second row, 12 times = 21 stitches.  

When work measures 62 cm, bind off 6 stitches at the outer edge for the shoulder.  

Continue working the remaining 15 stitches in lace pattern for 18 cm and then bind off all stitches.  

Left front:  

Work as mirror image of the right front.  

Sleeves:  

Cast on 39 stitches and work 20 rows in lace pattern.  

Continue in eyelet pattern.  

For shaping, beginning with row 25, increase 1 stitch at each side every 10th row, 5 times = 49 stitches.  

When work measures 42 cm, shape the sleeve cap as follows: bind off 4 stitches at each side, then in every second row bind off 2 stitches once, 1 stitch once, work 4 rows straight, bind off 1 stitch 8 times, 2 stitches twice, and finally the remaining 11 stitches.  

Sew shoulder seams, side seams, and sleeve seams.  

Work a crochet edging in the round along the edge of the cardigan and the sleeves using the charted crochet pattern.  

For the ties, crochet a chain of 20 chain stitches and work 1 row of single crochet into it.
