How to knit the lace cardigan:
Size: US 8–10 / UK 12–14 / EU 40–42
Material:
300 g self-striping yarn (70% polyamide, 30% wool, 270 m/100 g), straight and circular needles US 4 / UK 9 (3.5 mm), crochet hook US E/4 (3 mm), and 1 button.
Garter Stitch: work all stitches knit in right side and wrong side rows.
Stockinette Stitch: right side rows knit, wrong side rows purl.
Lace Pattern A: number of stitches multiple of 10 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to chart 1, which shows only right side rows.
On wrong side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs, or as indicated in the chart key.
Between edge stitches always repeat the pattern repeat.
In height, repeat rows 1 to 12 throughout.
Lace Pattern B: number of stitches multiple of 3 + 2 edge stitches.
Work according to chart 2, which shows only right side rows.
On wrong side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Between edge stitches always repeat the pattern repeat.
In height, work rows 1 to 4 once.
Back:
Cast on 88 stitches and work 6 rows in Garter Stitch.
Continue in Lace Pattern A.
At a height of 10 cm, for waist shaping, decrease 1 stitch on each side at the edge in every 8th row 6 times.
At a height of 26 cm there should be 76 stitches on the needle.
Then work straight for 3 cm.
After this, increase 1 stitch on each side at the edge in every 8th row 6 times.
At a height of 48 cm there should be 88 stitches on the needle.
Continue Lace Pattern A from rows 1 to 6 of the chart (without Garter Stitch).
At the same time, for the armholes, bind off 4 stitches once and 1 stitch 4 times at each edge = 72 stitches.
At a height of 18 cm from the beginning of the armhole, for the neckline, bind off the middle 26 stitches and finish each side separately, binding off 3 stitches once and 2 stitches once at the inner edge.
At the same time, with the beginning of the neckline, bind off for the shoulder slope at the outer edge 9 stitches twice.
Left Front:
Cast on 40 stitches and work 6 rows in Garter Stitch.
Continue in Lace Pattern A, working decreases and increases at the right edge as for the back.
At a height of 40 cm, for the neckline, bind off 1 stitch at the left edge in every 4th row 14 times.
At a height of 66 cm, work the shoulder slope as for the back.
Right Front: work symmetrically to the left front.
Sleeves:
Cast on 80 stitches and work 3 rows in Garter Stitch.
Then work 4 rows in Lace Pattern B.
Continue in Stockinette Stitch and at a height of 8 cm from the cast-on evenly decrease 28 stitches = 52 stitches.
Then work 6 rows in Garter Stitch.
Continue in Lace Pattern A, increasing 1 stitch at each edge for sleeve shaping in every 8th row 4 times.
At a height of 29 cm there should be 60 stitches on the needle.
Continue Lace Pattern A from rows 1 to 6 of the chart (without Garter Stitch).
At the same time, for the sleeve cap, bind off 4 stitches once, 1 stitch 19 times, and finally the remaining 14 stitches at each edge.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams.
Along the front edges and neckline, pick up 115 stitches from each front and 40 stitches from the back on circular needles = 270 stitches.
Work 8 rows in Garter Stitch and bind off all stitches loosely.
Sew side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.
Work the front edging with a crochet hook, making arches of 5 chain stitches into every 4th stitch.
Sew on the button.
