Gauge: 25 stitches and 32 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).
Back:
Cast on 131 (147) stitches and work in the Main Pattern.
For the armholes, when the piece measures 12.75 inches (32 cm) = 102 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off at both sides in every 2nd row: 5 stitches once, 4 stitches once, 3 stitches once, 2 stitches twice, and 1 stitch three times = 93 (109) stitches.
Work straight.
For the shoulder slopes, when the piece measures 21.25 inches (54 cm) = 172 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off at both sides in every 2nd row: 4 stitches four times (6 stitches three times and 5 stitches once).
At the same time, with the first shoulder bind-off, bind off the center 19 stitches for the neckline and finish each side separately.
For the neck shaping, bind off 9 stitches twice at the inner edge in every 2nd row.
Bind off the remaining 3 (4) shoulder stitches when the piece measures 22 inches (56 cm) = 180 rows from the cast-on edge.
Front:
Work as for the Back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, when the piece measures 17.75 inches (45 cm) = 144 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off the center 19 stitches and shape the neckline by binding off in every 2nd row: 3 stitches once, 2 stitches four times, and 1 stitch seven times.
Work the shoulder slopes as for the Back.
Sleeves:
Cast on 91 stitches and work in the Main Pattern, beginning with the stitches indicated by the arrow. Work yarn overs only where they are balanced by corresponding decreases.
At the same time, shape the sleeves by increasing 1 stitch at both sides 5 times in every 2nd row and 7 times in every 4th row, working the new stitches into the pattern = 115 stitches.
For the sleeve cap, when the sleeve measures 5.25 inches (13 cm) = 42 rows from the cast-on edge, bind off at both sides in every 2nd row: 3 stitches once, 2 stitches eight times, 1 stitch twelve times, and 2 stitches eight times.
Bind off the remaining 21 stitches when the sleeve measures 12.25 inches (31 cm) = 100 rows from the cast-on edge.
Finishing:
Sew the seams. Set in the sleeves.
Using the circular needle, pick up approximately 132 stitches evenly around the neckline and work 0.75 inch (2 cm) in garter stitch in the round. Then bind off all stitches.
