Knitted Shawl Collar Cardigan

How to knit Shawl Collar Cardigan:
Size: 10 (UK) / 6 (US).
Materials:
500 g yarn (50 percent merino wool, 50 percent acrylic, 245 m per 100 g / approximately 268 yards per 3.5 ounces); straight knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4), 4 mm (US 6) and 6 mm (US 10).
Tubular edging:
With contrast yarn cast on half the required number of stitches;
Row 1: With working yarn * knit 1, yarn over *, repeat from * to *;
Row 2: * knit the yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl without working it, yarn in front of work *, repeat from * to *;
Row 3 and following rows: * knit 1, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, yarn in front of work *, repeat from * to *.
In the finished piece unravel the contrast yarn.
Ribbing Pattern 1 by 1: Alternately knit 1, purl 1.
Stockinette stitch: right-side rows knit stitches, wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Reverse stockinette stitch: right-side rows purl stitches, wrong-side rows knit stitches.
Gauge in Stockinette stitch: 22 stitches and 25 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back:
With 3.5 mm (US 4) needles cast on 111 stitches and work 4 rows in Tubular edging.
Continue with 4 mm (US 6) needles in Ribbing Pattern 1 by 1.
After 20 cm (8 inches) from cast on work the first and last 3 stitches in Tubular edging, the 4th stitch from beginning and the 4th stitch from end in Reverse stockinette stitch, all remaining stitches in Stockinette stitch.
At the same time in Row 1 decrease evenly 11 stitches once and simultaneously make 10 eyelets as follows: * 5 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, yarn over, 8 stitches *, repeat from * to *, at end of row knit 2 stitches together, yarn over and 5 knit stitches.
Starting from Row 2 of Stockinette stitch on both sides after the first 4 stitches and after the first 14 stitches, before the last 4 stitches and before the last 14 stitches increase 1 stitch 23 times = 191 stitches.
After 18 cm (7 inches) from Ribbing Pattern also work the first and last 4 stitches in Stockinette stitch, at the same time on both sides after the first 4 stitches and before the last 4 stitches decrease 1 stitch 32 times, after the first 14 stitches and before the last 14 stitches decrease 1 stitch 23 times and 2 stitches 9 times.
After 60 cm (23.5 inches) from cast on for neckline bind off the remaining 45 stitches.
Right Front:
With 3.5 mm (US 4) needles cast on 32 stitches and work 4 rows in Tubular edging.
Continue with 4 mm (US 6) needles in Ribbing Pattern 1 by 1.
After 20 cm (8 inches) from cast on work the first 3 stitches in Tubular edging, the 4th stitch in Reverse stockinette stitch, the remaining stitches in Stockinette stitch; at the same time in Row 1 make 3 eyelets as follows: 6 knit stitches, * knit 2 stitches together, yarn over, 8 knit stitches *, repeat from * to *, 6 knit stitches.
Starting from Row 2 of Stockinette stitch on the left side before the last 4 stitches and before the last 14 stitches increase 1 stitch 23 times = 124 stitches.
After 18 cm (7 inches) from Ribbing Pattern also work the first 4 stitches in Stockinette stitch and on the left side before the last 4 stitches decrease 1 stitch 31 times and 2 stitches once, at the same time before the last 14 stitches decrease 1 stitch 23 times and 2 stitches 9 times.
After 60 cm (23.5 inches) from cast on for neckline bind off the remaining 4 stitches.
Left Front: work symmetrically.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams and side seams of Ribbing Pattern.
For collar and bands with 4.5 mm (US 7) needles along the center edges of fronts and along the back neckline, starting from lower edge of right front, pick up 390 stitches.
Then work the first and last 3 stitches in Tubular edging, the remaining stitches in Ribbing Pattern 1 by 1.
At the level of the eyelets made on the fronts work 1 eyelet on band of right front and 1 eyelet on band of left front.
After 18 cm (7 inches) work 4 rows in Tubular edging and bind off all stitches.
For belt with 6 mm (US 10) needles cast on 4 stitches, work 150 cm (59 inches) in Tubular edging and bind off all stitches.
Thread belt through the eyelets above Ribbing Pattern.
