How to knit the jacket with an asymmetrical button band:
Size: US 8–10 / UK 12–14 / EU 40–42
Material:
280 g of yarn (40% mohair, 60% acrylic; 500 m/100 g); straight and circular needles size US 1.5 / UK 12 / 2.5 mm; crochet hook size US B/1 / UK 12 / 2.5 mm; 5 buttons.
Star Pattern: number of stitches multiple of 4 + 3 sts + 2 edge sts.
Work according to Chart 1, which shows only Right Side rows.
On Wrong Side rows, work all stitches knit.
Repeat rows 1–4 throughout.
Cable Pattern A:
Work according to Chart 2, which shows only Right Side rows.
On Wrong Side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Repeat rows 1–10 throughout.
Cable Pattern B: number of stitches multiple of 6 + 4 sts + 2 edge sts.
Work according to Chart 3, which shows only Right Side rows.
On Wrong Side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Repeat rows 1–4 throughout.
Gauge: 22 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Back:
With waste yarn cast on 113 sts and continue with working yarn in Star Pattern (28 pattern repeats + 3 sts for symmetry + 2 edge sts).
For side shaping decrease at both sides in every 10th row 8 times 1 st = 97 sts.
At 39 cm from the cast-on edge, for the armholes bind off at both sides in every 2nd row 1 time 6 sts, 1 time 3 sts, 1 time 2 sts, and 1 time 1 st = 73 sts.
At 59 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off all stitches.
Left Front:
With waste yarn cast on 59 sts, then continue with working yarn as follows: edge st, 43 sts Star Pattern (10 pattern repeats + 3 sts for symmetry), 1 knit st, 12 sts Cable Pattern A, 1 purl st, edge st.
At 39 cm from the cast-on edge, for the armhole bind off on the right side in every 2nd row 1 time 6 sts, 1 time 3 sts, 1 time 2 sts, and 1 time 1 st = 46 sts.
At the same time, to the right of the knit stitch dividing the Star Pattern from Cable Pattern A, decrease in every 2nd row 15 times 2 sts = 16 sts.
At 59 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off all stitches.
Right Front:
Work symmetrically to the left front.
Sleeves:
Cast on 49 sts and work in Star Pattern (11 pattern repeats + 3 sts for symmetry + 2 edge sts).
For sleeve shaping increase at both sides in every 4th row 16 times 1 st = 81 sts, incorporating new stitches into the pattern.
At 36 cm from the cast-on edge, for the sleeve cap bind off at both sides in every 2nd row 1 time 6 sts, 1 time 3 sts, 1 time 2 sts, 10 times 1 st, 1 time 2 sts, 1 time 3 sts, and 1 time 5 sts.
At 52 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 19 sts.
Button Band:
Pick up 198 sts with circular needles and work 11 cm in Cable Pattern B (33 pattern repeats + 4 sts for symmetry + 2 edge sts), then work 4 rows in Stockinette Stitch and 4 rows with waste yarn.
At the same time, on the button band of the right front work 5 buttonholes: in every 3rd pattern repeat in row 5 bind off 2 purl sts, and in the following row cast them on again.
Finishing:
Sew side seams.
At the lower edge remove the waste yarn, pick up the stitches on circular needles and from the Wrong Side work 10 rows Stockinette Stitch with working yarn and 4 rows with waste yarn.
Fold to the Right Side and sew the open stitches, removing the waste yarn.
Sew the stitches along the vertical edges of the fronts and the neckline.
Sew sleeve seams and set in the sleeves.
Along the back neckline fold the button band to the Wrong Side, then fold it on the left and right sides with a slope down to the first button fastening and sew it on the Wrong Side.
