How to Knit a Summer Top in a Fantasy Pattern
Size: EU 40/42 (US 10–12 / UK 12–14)
Materials
- 300 g of 100% mercerized cotton (396 m/150 g)
- Straight knitting needles 3 mm (US 2½ / UK 11)
- Circular needle 3 mm (US 2½ / UK 11)
Stitch Patterns
Garter stitch: Knit all rows.
Fantasy pattern: Work according to the chart (only RS rows shown). On WS rows, purl all sts and yarn overs. Pattern repeat = 27 sts.
Gauge
24 sts and 35 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) in fantasy pattern with 3 mm needles.
Instructions
Back
Cast on 112 sts and work 6 rows in garter stitch. Then:
- 2 sts in garter stitch
- 108 sts in fantasy pattern
- 2 sts in garter stitch
At 32 cm (12½ in), shape armholes by binding off at each edge: 8, 3, 2 (2x), 1 sts.
At 46 cm (18 in), bind off center 21 sts for neckline. Shape sides: 5, 4, 2 (3x) sts.
At 50 cm (19¾ in), bind off remaining sts.
Front
As back until 40 cm (15¾ in). Then bind off center 21 sts for neckline.
Shape sides: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 sts. Bind off at 50 cm.
Finishing
- Sew shoulder seams.
- Pick up 118 sts around neckline, knit 2 cm in garter stitch, bind off.
- Pick up 106 sts along each armhole, knit 2.5 cm, bind off.
- Sew side seams, leaving 6 cm unsewn at bottom hem.
