Lightweight Pullover with Lace Pattern and Braided Strips
Lace Sweater with Braided Detail
Size: EU size 38–40 ≈ US size 8–10 / UK size 10–12
Materials:
300 g of yarn (100% mercerized Cotton, 396 m/150g); circular bamboo knitting needle size 5.0 mm (US 8 / UK 6) with stainless steel cable (80 cm long); cable needle; colored stitch markers; crochet hook size 3.5 mm (US E/4 / UK 9); tapestry needle; tracing paper; pencil; scissors; measuring tape.
 
Fantasy stitch (A): follow chart 1.
Fantasy stitch (B): follow chart 2.
Fantasy stitch (C): follow chart 3.
Reverse garter stitch: Purl all rows.
 
Simple decrease: slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over
 
Instructions for the stitches in blue in charts 2 and 3:
 
Dropped stitch area for making braids (back):
In the penultimate row of fantasy stitch B (chart 2), work as follows:
Knit 10 sts, place 5 sts on a colored stitch marker, cast on 5 new sts to replace them, knit 8 sts, place 8 sts on a colored stitch marker, cast on 8 new sts to replace them, knit 8 sts, place 5 sts on a colored stitch marker, cast on 5 new sts to replace them, and finish the row with 20 sts.
In the next row, bind off all stitches.
Remove the colored stitch markers and unravel the held stitches downward on the fabric.
Using the crochet hook, form braids by gathering 5 strands at a time and securing each braid with a contrasting yarn using the tapestry needle and basting stitches.
 
Dropped stitch area for making braids (front):
In the penultimate row of fantasy stitch B (chart 2), work as follows:
Knit 20 sts, place 5 sts on a colored stitch marker, cast on 5 new sts to replace them, knit 8 sts, place 8 sts on a colored stitch marker, cast on 8 new sts to replace them, knit 8 sts, place 5 sts on a colored stitch marker, cast on 5 new sts to replace them, and finish the row with 10 sts.
In the next row, bind off all stitches.

Gauge:
in stockinette stitch using circular needle = 20 sts × 24 rows (stockinette = knit on RS, purl on WS).
 
Instructions:
Transfer the pattern pieces to tracing paper to use as a guide during construction.
Follow the arrows on the schematic to identify the direction of the knitting.

Pullover:
The piece is knitted in one piece starting from the right sleeve cuff.
Сast on 46 sts with circular needle and work fantasy stitch A following chart 1 and its repeat.
At 48 cm length, begin the body (front and back) by increasing 64 sts on each side = 174 sts total.
Work simultaneously according to charts 2, 1, and 3:
64 sts for back (fantasy stitch B – chart 2),
46 sts for right sleeve (fantasy stitch A – chart 1),
64 sts for front (fantasy stitch C – chart 3).
 
At 53 cm from the beginning, start the neckline. Work front and back separately for 28 cm, working the neckline edge with 3 sts in reverse garter stitch on each side.
Then return to working the full 174 sts together again using charts 2, 1, and 3:
64 sts (back), 46 sts (left sleeve), 64 sts (front) for another 10 cm.
At 96 cm from the beginning, follow the instructions above to drop stitches and create the braids.
Then bind off the 64 sts for back and 64 sts for front, continuing only with the 46 center sts of the left sleeve in fantasy stitch A (chart 1).
At 144 cm from the beginning, bind off all sts.
 
Finishing:
Using the tapestry needle, sew the side seams (40 cm) and the underarm seams (48 cm).
