Materials:

Yarn: 1200 g (50% Wool, 50% Acrylic, yardage = 240m / 100g), 1 pair of knit needle size 5 mm (US 8), 9 buttons.

Rib Pattern 1: alt K1, P1 Rib.

Rib Pattern 2: alt K2, P2 Rib.

On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.

Seed Stitch:

Work according to chart 2 where only RS rows are shown.

On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.

Repeat Rows 1-2 throughout.

Cable Diamond Pattern:

Work according to chart 1 where only RS rows are shown.

On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.

Repeat Rows 1-22 throughout.

Note:

Coat is worked in one piece without side seams.

Working:

Cast on 194 sts and to shape bands work at each end 11 sts in Rib Patt 1, rem sts in Rib Patt 2.

When piece meas 4 cm from cast on distribute sts as foll: selv st, 11 sts in Rib Patt 1 for band, 30 sts in Cable Diamond Patt, 20 sts in Seed Stitch, 30 sts in Cable Diamond Patt, 10 sts in Seed Stitch, 30 sts in Cable Diamond Patt, 20 sts in Seed Stitch, 30 sts in Cable Diamond Patt, 11 sts in Rib Patt 1 for band, selv st.

Work even, at the same time working buttonholes evenly spaced on right front band.

To narrow the piece, when it measures 44 cm from beg, dec 5 sts 6 times on every 4th row.

Work decs on Seed Stitch (dec 2 sts on either of side edges of the piece and 1 st in the middle of the piece).

Continue even.

When piece measures 66 cm from beg, divide it into parts: right front - 46 sts, back - 78 sts, left front - 46 sts, and complete both sides separately.

Back:

Armhole Shaping: at each end bind off 2 sts twice and 1 st once on every 2nd row.

Neckline Shaping: When piece measures 85 cm from cast on, bind off center 18 sts and complete both sides separately.

For rounding at neckline edge, bind off 2 sts twice and 1 st once on every 2nd row.

When piece measures 89 cm from beg, bind off all sts.

Right Front:

Armhole Shaping: on left side bind off 2 sts twice and 1 st once on every 2nd row.

Continue even.

Neckline Shaping: When piece measures 78 cm from cast on, on right side slip 1 selv st and 11 sts of band on holder, bind off 8 sts and 2 sts 3 times on every 2nd row.

When piece measures 89 cm from beg, bind off rem sts.

Left Front: Work in reverse.

Sleeves:

Cast on 42 sts and work 4 cm in Rib Patt 2.

Cont as foll: selv st, 5 sts in Seed Stitch, 30 sts in Cable Diamond Patt, 5 sts in Seed Stitch, selv st.

For sleeve shaping, inc 1st at each end on every 5th row.

Work increased sts in Seed Stitch.

Cap Shaping: When piece measures 38 cm from cast on, at both ends bind off 2 sts and then on every 2nd row 2 sts twice, 1 st 12 times and 2 sts 3 times.

When piece measures 54 cm from beg, bind off all sts.

Finishing:

Join shoulder seams.

Sew side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.

Pick up sts evenly around neck edge, place sts of band onto needles, work those in Rib Patt 1 and rem sts in Rib Patt 2.

When piece measures 4 cm from beg, bind off all sts.

Sew on buttons.
