Cardigan with Lace Panels

Sizes: 10 (US 6).

Materials:

Yarn: 550 g Mondial Alpaca (55% Alpaca, 45% Merino Wool, yardage = 50 m / 50 g); 1 pair of knit needles size 4 mm (US 6) and 1 tapestry needle.

Double Rib Patt: With contrasting yarn, cast on half of the necessary number of sts. 

Row 1: With main yarn, work * K1, 1 yo, rep from *.

Row 2: * Work yo kwise, slip 1 st pwise, with yarn forward, rep from *.

Row 3 and further rows: * K1, slip 1 st pwise, with yarn forward, rep from *.

Unravel contrasting yarn.

Stocking stitch (St st): Work RS rows K and WS rows P.

Reverse stocking stitch (Rev st st): Work RS rows P and WS rows K.

Rib Patt 1/1: alt K1, P1. 

Rib Patt 2/2: alt K2, P2.

Small Cable (over 2 sts):

Row 1: Sl 1 st to cn and hold to back, K1, K1 from cn. 

Row 2: purl. 

Repeat rows 1 and 2 throughout.

Basic Pattern: 

Row 1: K4, knit 2 sts tog, K2, 1 yo, K1, 1 yo, K2, 1 skpo (sl 1 kwise, K1, pass slipped stitch over), K4. 

Row 2 and all further even rows: purl. 

Row 3: K3, knit 2 sts tog, K2, 1 yo, K3, 1 yo, K2, 1 skpo, K3. 

Row 5: K2, knit 2 sts tog, K2, 1 yo, K5, 1 yo, K2, 1 skpo, K2. 

Row 7: K1, knit 2 sts tog, K2, 1 yo, K7, 1 yo, K2, 1 skpo, K1.

Row 9: knit 2 sts tog, K2, 1 yo, K9, 1 yo, K2, 1 skpo. 

Rep rows 1-10 throughout.

Gauge:

over St st: 22 sts and 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Back: 

Cast on 101 sts and work 4 rows in Double Rib Patt and 10 rows in Rib Patt 1/1. 

Cont in pats as foll: 5 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 2 sts in Rev st st, 17 sts in Basic Pattern, 2 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 8 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 2 sts in Rev st st, 22 sts in St st, 2 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 8 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 2 sts in Rev st st, 17 sts in Basic Pattern, 2 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 5 sts in Rev st st. 

Waist Shaping: On every 10th row dec 1 st 4 times in every 5-st rev st st strip and 2 sts 4 times in every 8-st rev st st strip = 83 sts.  

Then inc 1 st 3 times each side on every 10th row = 89 sts.

When piece measures 50 cm from cast on, for armhole shaping, at each end bind off 4 sts once and then on every 2nd row 2 sts 3 times. 

After 53 cm from rib, work sts of Cable Pattern in Basic Pattern as they appear and other sts in St st. 

After 70 cm from cast on, put rem sts aside.

Left Front: 

Cast on 47 sts and work 4 rows in Double Rib Patt and 10 rows in Rib Patt 1/1. 

Cont in pats as foll: 5 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 2 sts in Rev st st, 17 sts in Basic Pattern, 2 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 18 sts in Rev st st, 2 sts in Cable, 2 sts in Rev st st, 6 sts in St st. 

Waist Shaping: On every 10th row at right edge dec 1 st 3 times in every 5-st rev st st strip and 2 sts 3 times in every 8-st rev st st strip. 

Then inc 1 st 3 times at right edge on every 10th row. 

After 15 cm from rib, work sts of Cable Pattern in Basic Pattern as they appear and other sts in St st. 

After 32 cm from cast on, for neckline, on left side before last 3 sts dec 1 st 6 times on every 10th row and 1 st 5 times on every 6th row. 

When piece measures 50 cm from cast on, for armhole shaping, at right end bind off 4 sts once and then on every 2nd row 1 st 3 times. 

After 70 cm from cast on, put rem sts aside.

Right Front: Work in reverse.

Sleeves: 

Cast on 47 sts and work 4 rows in Double Rib Patt and 20 rows in Rib Patt 1/1.

Then work in St st. For sleeve slants, inc 1 st 9 times on every 10th row each side. 

Cap Shaping: When piece measures 50 cm from cast on, at each end bind off 4 sts once, then 1 st 11 times on every 2nd row and 1 st 8 times on every row.

When piece measures 64 cm from cast on, bind off rem 21 sts.

Finishing: 

Close shoulder seams.

For collar and central bands, pick up 36 sts along neck edge and work in Rib Patt 2/2. After Row 2, work sts of neck and both fronts into patt each side on every 2nd row: 6 sts 12 times, 8 sts once, 80 sts once = 356 sts.

Work 18 cm in Rib Patt 2/2. Work 3 edge sts in Double Rib Pattern each side. Then work 4 rows in Double Rib Pattern and bind off all sts using kitchener stitch. 

Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams.
