Cardigan in Textured Stitch Pattern

How to knit the Cardigan in Textured Stitch:
Size: 38 (EU) / US 6 / UK 10
Materials:
600 g yarn (70% acrylic, 30% wool, 166 m per 100 g / approx. 181 yards per 3.5 oz). Circular needles US 6 (4.0 mm), 32 inches long, and US 8 (5.0 mm), 40 inches long. 3 transparent buttons (2 x 2 cm / approx. 0.8 x 0.8 inches).

Ribbing Pattern 2/2: * purl 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches *, repeat from * to *.

Relief Stitch Pattern:
Rows 1 and 2: knit stitches.
Row 3: * knit 2 stitches, purl 1 stitch *, repeat from *.
Row 4: * knit 1 stitch, purl 2 stitches *, repeat from *.
Repeat these 4 rows throughout.

Buttonhole (right front, band):
Row 9 (right side): yarn over, knit 2 stitches together, then continue in pattern.
Row 10 (wrong side): work in Ribbing Pattern 2/2.

Gauge on circular needles US 8 (5.0 mm): 18 stitches and 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches.


Back:
Cast on 84 stitches using US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles and work 10 cm / 4 inches in Ribbing Pattern 2/2.
Change to US 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles and continue in Relief Stitch Pattern.
For armholes at 32 cm / 12.6 inches from cast-on, decrease at both sides every second row:
4 stitches once, 2 stitches once, 1 stitch three times = 66 stitches.
At 53 cm / 20.9 inches from cast-on, bind off all stitches.

Right Front:
Cast on 42 stitches using US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles and work 10 cm / 4 inches in Ribbing Pattern 2/2.
Change to US 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles and continue in Relief Stitch Pattern.
At 32 cm / 12.6 inches from cast-on, begin armhole and neckline shaping at the same time.
For armhole at left edge, decrease every second row:
4 stitches once, 2 stitches once, 1 stitch three times.
For neckline at right edge, decrease 1 stitch every second row 15 times.
At 53 cm / 20.9 inches from cast-on, bind off 18 shoulder stitches.

Left Front: Work as Right Front, reversing armhole and neckline shaping.
Cardigan in Textured Stitch Pattern
Sleeves:
Cast on 38 stitches using US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles and work 16 cm / 6.3 inches in Ribbing Pattern 2/2.
In the last row increase evenly 4 stitches = 42 stitches.
Change to US 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles and continue in Relief Stitch Pattern.
For sleeve shaping increase 1 stitch at both sides every 4th row 6 times = 54 stitches.
At 48 cm / 18.9 inches from cast-on, shape sleeve cap by decreasing at both sides every second row:
6 stitches once, 2 stitches six times, 1 stitch three times.
At 63 cm / 24.8 inches from cast-on, bind off remaining 12 stitches.



Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams (10 cm / 4 inches).
Sew side seams (32 cm / 12.6 inches), leaving 21 cm / 8.3 inches open for armholes.
Sew sleeve seams (48 cm / 18.9 inches) and set sleeves into armholes.
Front Band (right front, back, left front):
Work band beginning at right front edge, across back, and ending at left front edge.
Using US 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles, pick up stitches as follows:
78 stitches along right front, 36 stitches across back, 78 stitches along left front = 192 stitches.
Work in Ribbing Pattern 2/2.
At 2 cm / 0.8 inches from beginning of band, in rows 9 and 10, work 3 buttonholes (yarn over, purl 2 stitches together) spaced 6 cm / 2.4 inches apart.
At 8 cm / 3.1 inches from beginning, bind off all stitches.
