Cardigan in Knit and Purl Stitches

How to knit the Cardigan in knit and purl stitches:
Sizes: EU 42/44 (46/48) 52/54 = US 10/12 (14/16) 18/20 = UK 14/16 (18/20) 22/24
Materials:
1300 (1400) 1500 g yarn (40% cotton, 30% acrylic, 30% polyamide, 75 m/50 g / 82 yds/1.76 oz); circular needles size 4–7 US (3.5–4.5 mm); 1 button.

Stockinette stitch: on right-side rows knit stitches, on wrong-side rows purl stitches.
Reverse stockinette stitch: on right-side rows purl stitches, on wrong-side rows knit stitches.
Garter stitch: on right-side and wrong-side rows knit stitches.
Main pattern: * 2 rows stockinette stitch and 2 rows reverse stockinette stitch, repeat from * throughout.

Gauge, main pattern: 18 stitches and 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).

Back:
Cast on 104 (118) 132 stitches and work 20 cm (8 inches) in garter stitch.
Continue in the main pattern.
After 40 cm (15.7 inches) from cast-on, bind off 2 stitches on both sides for armholes, then in every 2nd row bind off 1 (0) 1 x 2 stitches and 9 (12) 12 x 1 stitch.
After 61 (64) 66 cm (24 (25.2) 26 inches) from cast-on, bind off 2 (3) 4 stitches on both sides for shoulder shaping, then in every 2nd row bind off 6 x 3 (1 x 3 and 5 x 4) 3 x 4 and 3 x 5 stitches.
Bind off the remaining stitches at a height of 65 (68) 70 cm (25.6 (26.8) 27.6 inches).

Left front:
Cast on 62 (69) 76 stitches and work 20 cm (8 inches) in garter stitch.
Continue in the main pattern, at the same time in the 1st row bind off 27 stitches for the pocket opening, starting from the 11th (15th) 18th stitch, place the remaining stitches on hold.
For the pocket lining cast on 29 stitches and work in stockinette stitch.
After 12 cm (4.7 inches), bind off the edge stitches on both sides.
Place the remaining 27 stitches back into work instead of the bound-off pocket opening stitches and continue working across all stitches.
Work the armhole on the right side as for the back.
After 67 (70) 72 cm (26.4 (27.6) 28.3 inches) from cast-on, place the remaining stitches on hold.


Right front:
Work symmetrically and with a buttonhole.
For this, after 45 (46) 48 cm (17.7 (18.1) 18.9 inches) from cast-on, on a right-side row bind off stitches from the 9th to the 15th stitch and cast them on again in the following wrong-side row.

Sleeves:
Cast on 60 (64) 66 stitches and work 10 cm (4 inches) in garter stitch.
Continue in the main pattern.
For sleeve shaping increase on both sides in every 10th row 9 (3) 1 x 1 stitch, in every 8th row 1 (5) 1 x 1 stitch and in every 6th row 1 (6) 15 x 1 stitch, incorporating the increased stitches into the pattern.
After 45 cm (17.7 inches) from cast-on, for the sleeve cap bind off stitches on both sides as for the armholes on the back.
Bind off the remaining stitches at a height of 52 (53) 54 cm (20.5 (20.9) 21.3 inches).

Finishing:
Sew the shoulder seams (as the front pieces are 2 cm (0.8 inches) longer than the back, the shoulder seams will be slightly shifted to the back).
For the collar, place the held stitches of the fronts onto the needles, pick up 40 stitches along the neckline between them and work 10 cm (4 inches) in the main pattern across all stitches, then bind off all stitches.
Fold the sleeves in half and set them in, sew the remaining seams, leaving the lower 8 cm (3.1 inches) of the side seams open.
Sew the pocket linings and the button.
