Brioche Stitch Baby Sweater
Size: 18-24 months
Materials:
200 g Kartopu Gonca Petrol (col K658) (100% Akrylic, 300 m/100 g); 1 pair quick knit needles and 1 circular knitting needle, both size US 4 (3,5 mm).
Rib Pattern: K1, P1 Rib.
St st: K on RS rows, p on WS rows.
Rev st st: P on RS rows; K on WS rows.
Half Brioche Stitch 1, 2, 3:
Work acc to charts. Only RS rows are shown.
On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.
Wheat Ear Loop Stitch Pattern: Video
1st and 3rd rows: P1, K3, P1;
Rows 2-4: Work in pattern.
Row 5: P1, insert needle in loop 4 rows below the 2nd st on left needle, draw up a loop, K3, draw 2nd loop through same st, P1.
Row 6: K1, slip 1 knitwise wyif (with yarn in front), P3, slip 1 knitwise wyif, K1.
Row 7: P1, K2tog tbl, K1, K2tog, P1.
Row 8: Rep Row 2.
Rep rows 5-8 for for pattern.
English Rib: Video
1st row: Selv st, * K1, yo, slip 1 st as if purled, rep from *, end with K1, selv st.
2nd row: Selv st, * yo, slip 1 st as if purled, K next st and yo tog, rep from *, end with yo, slip 1 st as if purled, selv st.
3rd row: Selv st, * K next st and yo tog, yo, slip 1 st as if purled, rep from *, end with K next st and yo tog, selv st.
Repeat row 2 and 3.
Gauge:
Half Brioche Stitch 1, 2, 3: 20 sts and 29 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Rib Pat: 20 sts and 28,5 rows = 10x 10 cm;
English Rib: 15-16 sts and 25 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Back:
Cast on 61 sts and work 3,5 cm = 10 rows in rib pattern for border.
Then work in Half Brioche Stitch 2.
When piece measures 26,5 cm from beg, bind off sts.
Front:
Cast on 61 sts and work 3,5 cm = 10 rows in rib pattern for border.
Cont as foll: Selv st, 15 sts in Half Brioche Stitch 2, 29 sts in Half Brioche Stitch 1, 15 sts in in Half Brioche Stitch 2, selv st.
Work even until piece meas about 26,5 cm from beg, end with a Rev St st.
Bind off sts.
Right sleeve:
Cast on 29 sts and work 3,5 cm = 10 rows in rib pattern for border.
Then work in Half Brioche Stitch 1, inc 1 st each side every 4th row.
Work the inc sts into Half Brioche Stitch 2 (foll chart for right sleeve).
When work measures 26 cm from beg, bind off 15 sts at each side and then cont in Half Brioche Stitch 1.
Work 8 more cm even, place first 16 sts on holder and cont on the rem 13 sts in Half Brioche Stitch 3 for one halfback.
Work even in patt for 18 rows more, end 2 rows in St st and 2 rows in Rev St st, then bind off sts kwise.
Left sleeve: Work to correspond to right sleeve, reversing shaping.
Finishing:
Sew the left and right back pieces of the sleeves tog.
Sew sleeves according to the photo.
Join side and sleeve seams.
Collar:
Slip 16 right sleeve sts from holder to circular needle, pick up and knit 30 sts from back neck and slip 16 left sleeve sts from holder to circular needle = 62 sts.
Cont with short-rows as foll:
work 29 sts in English Rib, place marker, work 4 sts, place marker, work 4 sts, turn, yo, work 12 sts, turn, yo, work 16 sts, turn, yo.
Work yo tog with foll st to prevent holes.
Cont to work in short rows (plus 4 sts), until all sts have been worked.
Cont on 62 sts in English Rib.
When collar measures 9 cm = 22 rows (meas by back collar middle) from pick up row, bind off in rib.
Putting the collar edges on each other, sew them to the BO sts of the front.
