Boys' Sweater in Fancy Pattern

Age: 9-11 y/o.

Materials: 

Yarn: 500 g (100% Acrylic, yardage = 230 m/100 g); one circular needle size 3 mm (US 2.5) as well as quick knit needles, size 3 and 4 mm (US 2.5 and 6).

Stockinette stitch (St st): Work RS rows K and WS rows P.

Reverse stocking stitch (Rev st st): Work RS rows P and WS rows K.

Fancy Pattern:

Work according to chart 1. Only RS rows are shown.

On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.

Repeat Rows 1-24 throughout.

Small Cable:

Work according to chart 2. Only RS rows are shown.

On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.

Repeat Rows 1-2 throughout.

Rib Pattern: 

Work according to chart 3. Only RS rows are shown.

On WS rows, work all sts as they appear.

Repeat Rows 1-2 throughout.

Gauge: 19 sts and 27 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Back: 

Using 3 mm needles, cast on 84 sts and work 6 cm as foll: selv st, 4 sts 20 times in Rib Pattern, 2 sts in Rev St st, selv st. Inc 28 sts evenly across last row = 112 sts.

Change to needles size 4 mm as foll: selv st, 22 sts in St st (work 2 rows in Rev St st after each 23rd row), 2 x (4 sts in Small Cable, 4 sts in St st, 19 sts in Fancy Patt, 4 sts in St st), 4 sts in Small Cable, 22 sts in St st (work 2 rows in Rev St st after each 23rd row), selv st.

Neckline Shaping: When piece meas 54 cm from cast on, bind off center 34 sts and 2 sts once on either side of them.

When piece measures 56 cm, bind off all sts.

Front: 

Work like back, but with deeper neckline.

To do that, when piece measures 51 cm from cast on, bind off center 30 sts, then 2 sts once and 1 stitch twice on every 2nd row on either side of them. 

When Front matches Back, bind off sts.

Sleeves: 

Using 3 mm needles, cast on 44 sts and work 6 cm as foll: selv st, 4 sts 10 times in Rib Pattern, 2 sts in Rev St st, selv st. Inc 13 sts evenly across last row = 57 sts.

Change to needles size 4 mm as foll: selv st, 10 sts in St st (work 2 rows in Rev St st after each 23rd row), 4 sts in Small Cable, 4 sts in St st, 19 sts in Fancy Patt, 4 sts in St st, 4 sts in Small Cable, 10 sts in St st (work 2 rows in Rev St st after each 23rd row), selv st. 

For sleeve slants, at each end inc 1 stitch every 7th row. 

When piece measures 45 cm, bind off all sts.

Finishing:

Sew shoulder seams.

Sew side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.

Neckband: Using circular needle, pick up 88 sts evenly around neck edge from RS and work 4 cm in Rib Patt (4 sts 22 times). Then bind off all sts.
