Oversized Sweater with Lace English Rib

Sizes: 18/20 (US 14/16).

Materials: 

Yarn: 800 g (100% Wool, yardage = 250 m/100 g); 1 pair quick knit needles and one circular needle, both size 2.5 mm (US 1.5).

Rib Pattern: alt K1, P1.

English Rib: 

Row 1: K1, P1;

Row 2: work K kwise, slip P with yo tog;

Row 3 and further rows:  K1 with yo tog, slip P with yo tog;

Rep Rows 2 and 3.

Basic Pattern:

Work according to chart. Only RS rows are shown.

On WS rows work all sts as they appear, purl yos.

Beg with 1 selv st, rep patt, end with stitch after patt rep and 1 selv st.

Repeat Rows 1-28 throughout.

Gauge: 19 sts and 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Back: 

Cast on 115 sts and work 5 cm in Rib Patt.

Cont in Basic Pattern (= 7 reps + 1 st for symmetry + 2 selv sts).

Armhole Shaping: When work measures 49 cm from beg, bind off 11 sts on either side = 93 sts.

When work measures 70 cm from beg, bind off all sts.

Front: 

Work as given for back, but for neckline, after 66 cm from beg, bind off center 23 sts and complete both sides separately.

For rounding at inside edge on every 2nd row bind off 3 sts twice. 

When work measures 70 cm from beg, bind off rem 29 sts each side for shoulders.

Sleeves: 

Cast on 49 sts and work 5 cm in Rib Patt.

Cont in Basic Patt (= 3 reps).. 

Sleeve Shaping: Inc 1 stitch at each end, then 1 st on every 8th row 14 times = 77 sts.

Work increased sts in English Rib. 

When work measures 48 cm from beg, bind off all sts. 

Finishing:

Close shoulder seams. 

Neck Band: With circular needle and RS facing, pick up 80 sts evenly around neck edge and work 5 cm in Rib Patt. Then inc 18 sts evenly spaced across and work 14 cm in English Rib. Bind off sts. 

Sew side seams, sleeve seams and set in sleeves.
