Men's Sweater in Fancy Pattern

Sizes: 12/14 (US 8/10). 

Materials: 

Yarn: 550 g (55% Cotton, 45% Acrylic, yardage = 225 m/50 g); 1 pair quick knit needles size 2.5 mm (US 1.5). 

Rib Pattern: alt K1, P1.

Stockinette stitch (St st): Work RS rows K and WS rows P.

Gauge: 29 sts and 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Back: 

Cast on 132 sts and work 5 cm in Rib Patt. Inc 14 sts evenly across last WS row = 146 sts.

Cont in Fancy Pattern (= 13 reps + P1 + 2 selv sts). 

Armhole Shaping: When piece measures 45 cm from beg, at each end bind off 5 sts, then 3 sts once, 2 sts once and 1 st once on every 2nd row = 124 sts.

Neckline Shaping: After 65 cm from beg, bind off center 24 sts and complete both sides separately.

For rounding at inside edge on every 2nd row bind off 10 sts once and 5 sts once.

After 67 cm from beg, bind off rem 35 sts each side for shoulders.

Front: 

Work as given for back, but for neckline shaping, after 61 cm from beg, bind off center 18 sts and complete both sides separately.

For rounding at inside edge on every 2nd row bind off 4 sts once, 3 sts 3 times, 2 sts twice and 1 st once. 

After 67 cm from beg, bind off rem 35 sts each side for shoulders.  

Sleeves: 

Cast on 60 sts and work 5 cm in Rib Patt. Inc 9 sts evenly across last WS row = 69 sts.

Cont in Fancy Pattern (= 6 reps + P1 + 2 selv sts). 

To shape sleeve slants, inc 1 stitch each side every 6th row 20 times = 109 sts.

Cap Shaping: After 45 cm from beg, at each end bind off 3 sts, and on every 2nd row 2 sts once, 1 st 17 times, 2 sts twice, 3 sts twice, 4 sts once, 5 sts once and rem 27 sts once. 

Finishing: 

Close shoulder seams. 

Neck Band: With circular needle, pick up 116 sts evenly around neck edge and work 3 rnds in St st and 2.5 cm in Rib Patt. Then bind off all sts as they appear.

Sew side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.
