Cable Stitch Knitting Stitch

How to knit Cable Stitch:

Multiple of 17 + 2 + 2 selvage sts.

Cast on 20 stitches (16 + 2 + 2 selvage sts) and work according to chart.

The chart shows only RS rows.

On WS rows, work all sts as they appear (= knit all knit stitches and purl all purl stitches).

The pat rep = 17 sts wide.

2-st LT: knit 2nd st from behind without dropping from LH needle, knit first, drop both sts from LH needle together.

2/1P Right Cross: slip 1 st to cn, hold to back, K2, P from cn.

2/1P Left Cross: slip 2 st to cn, hold to front, P1, K2 from cn.

C4F: Slip 2 sts to cn, hold to front, K2, K2 from cn.

C4B: Slip 2 sts to cn, hold to back, K2, K2 from cn.

M1P: P1tbl (= purl 1 stitch through back loop) from strand between sts.

Row 1 (border): edge st, * 2-st LT, p2, 2-st LT, p2, 2-st LT, p1, M1P, p1, 2-st LT, p2, repeat from * to the last 3 sts, 2-st LT, edge st.

Row 3 (Cable Pattern): edge st, * 2-st LT, p3, k2, p2, k4, p4, repeat from * to the last 3 sts, 2-st LT, edge st.

Row 5: edge st, * 2-st LT, p3, k2, p2, C4F, p4, repeat from * to the last 3 sts, 2-st LT, edge st.

Row 7: edge st, * 2-st LT, p3, 2/1P Left Cross, 2/1P Right Cross, 2/1P Left Cross, p3, repeat from * to the last 3 sts, 2-st LT, edge st.

Row 9: edge st, * 2-st LT, p4, c4b, p2, k2, p3, repeat from * to the last 3 sts, 2-st LT, edge st.

Work Rows 1-20 once, then repeat Rows 5-20 throughout.
