Sweater with Lace Patterns
How to knit a sweater with lace patterns:
Sizes: US 8/10 (US 12/14) US 16/18 - UK 12/14 (UK 16/18) UK 20/22
Materials:
500 (600) 700 g yarn (60% cotton, 40% polyamide, 105 m/50 g); knitting needles 5 mm (US 8, UK 6) and crochet hook 5 mm (US H/8, UK 6).
Stockinette stitch: right-side rows – knit stitches, wrong-side rows – purl stitches.
Reverse stockinette stitch: right-side rows – purl stitches, wrong-side rows – knit stitches.
Lace Pattern A (20 stitches wide):
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1 to 30 throughout.
Lace Pattern B (20 stitches wide):
Work as Lace Pattern A, but according to chart 2.
Lace Pattern C: number of stitches divisible by 3 plus 2.
Row 1: 1 purl stitch, * 1 knit stitch, 1 yarn over, 1 slip-slip-pass-over (slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 stitch and pass the slipped stitch over), repeat from *, end with 1 purl stitch.
Rows 2 and 4: work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Row 3: 1 purl stitch, * 3 knit stitches, repeat from *, end with 1 purl stitch.
Repeat rows 1 to 4 throughout.
Gauge: 16 stitches and 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back:
Cast on 81 (89) 97 stitches and work as follows: edge stitch, 10 (14) 18 stitches stockinette stitch, 20 stitches Lace Pattern A, 4 stitches stockinette stitch, 11 stitches Lace Pattern C, 4 stitches stockinette stitch, 20 stitches Lace Pattern B, 10 (14) 18 stitches stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
After 40 cm = 88 rows (41 cm = 90 rows) 41 cm = 90 rows from cast-on edge, bind off for armholes on both sides in every 2nd row 5 times 1 stitch and in the following 4th rows 1 time 1 stitch = 69 (77) 85 stitches.
After 61 cm = 134 rows (63 cm = 138 rows) 64.5 cm = 142 rows from cast-on edge, bind off the center 17 (21) 21 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
For the neckline shaping, bind off from the inner edge in the next 2nd row 1 time 6 stitches.
After 63 cm = 138 rows (65 cm = 142 rows) 66.5 cm = 146 rows from cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 20 (22) 26 shoulder stitches on each side.
Front:
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline.
For this, after 54.5 cm = 120 rows (56.5 cm = 124 rows) 58 cm = 128 rows from cast-on edge, bind off the center 13 (17) 17 stitches and then bind off in every 2nd row 8 times 1 stitch.
Sleeves:
Cast on 43 (47) 47 stitches and work as follows: edge stitch, 7 (9) 9 stitches stockinette stitch, 1 stitch reverse stockinette stitch, 4 stitches stockinette stitch, 17 stitches Lace Pattern C, 4 stitches stockinette stitch, 1 stitch reverse stockinette stitch, 7 (9) 9 stitches stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
At the same time, increase for sleeve shaping on both sides from the cast-on edge in every 10th row 9 times (in every 10th row 9 times) in every 8th row 11 times 1 stitch in stockinette stitch = 61 (65) 69 stitches.
After 45.5 cm = 100 rows (45.5 cm = 100 rows) 43.5 cm = 96 rows from cast-on edge, bind off for the sleeve cap on both sides in every 2nd row 5 times 2 stitches, 8 times 1 stitch and 2 times 4 stitches.
After 59 cm = 130 rows (59 cm = 130 rows) 57 cm = 126 rows from cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 9 (13) 17 stitches.
Finishing:
Work the shoulder seams.
Crochet around the neckline 1 round of crab stitch (single crochet worked from left to right).
Set in the sleeves, work the side seams and sleeve seams.
