Sweater with Lace Pattern and Cables
How to knit a sweater with lace pattern and cables:
Size: US 10–12, UK 14–16
Material:
300 g yarn (60% cotton, 40% polyacrylic, 225 m/50 g); knitting needles 2.5 mm and 3 mm (US 1.5 and US 2.5); circular needles 2.5 mm (US 1.5).
Ribbing Pattern: alternate 2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches.
Cable Pattern:
Work according to chart 1, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear.
Repeat rows 1 to 10 throughout.
Lace Pattern:
Work according to chart 2, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs.
Repeat rows 1 to 12 throughout.
Average gauge: 27 stitches and 34 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches).
Back:
With 2.5 mm needles (US 1.5), cast on 110 stitches and work 4 cm (1.5 inches) in Ribbing Pattern, on the last wrong-side row increase evenly 4 stitches by working them twisted from the horizontal strand between stitches = 114 stitches.
Continue with 3 mm needles (US 2.5): edge stitch, 26 stitches stockinette stitch, 18 stitches Cable Pattern, 24 stitches Lace Pattern, 18 stitches Cable Pattern, 26 stitches stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
At a height of 42 cm (16.5 inches) from the beginning, for the armholes bind off on both sides 4 stitches, then on every second row bind off 1 time 2 stitches and 2 times 1 stitch = 98 stitches.
At a height of 61 cm (24 inches) from the beginning, for the shoulder shaping bind off on both sides on every second row 2 times 11 stitches.
At the same time, for the neckline bind off the central 40 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For the neckline shaping, bind off at the inner edge on every second row 1 time 4 stitches and 1 time 3 stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back, but for the neckline at a height of 52 cm (20.5 inches) from the beginning bind off the central 18 stitches and finish both sides separately.
For the neckline shaping, bind off at the inner edge on every second row 1 time 4 stitches, 2 times 3 stitches, 3 times 2 stitches, and 2 times 1 stitch.
Work the shoulder shaping as for the back.
Sleeves:
With 2.5 mm needles (US 1.5), cast on 70 stitches and work 4 cm (1.5 inches) in Ribbing Pattern.
Continue with 3 mm needles (US 2.5): edge stitch, 25 stitches stockinette stitch, 18 stitches Cable Pattern, 25 stitches stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
For the sleeve shaping, increase on both sides on every tenth row 6 times 1 stitch in stockinette stitch = 82 stitches.
At a height of 26 cm (10.25 inches) from the beginning, for the sleeve cap bind off on both sides 5 stitches, then on every second row bind off 2 times 3 stitches, 3 times 2 stitches, 8 times 1 stitch, 2 times 3 stitches, 1 time 4 stitches, and 1 time the remaining 12 stitches.
Finishing:
Work the shoulder seams.
For the neckline band, pick up 144 stitches around the neckline with circular needles and work 2.5 cm (1 inch) in Ribbing Pattern and 4 rows in stockinette stitch, then graft the live stitches to the neckline.
Work the side seams and sleeve seams, set the sleeves into the armholes.
