Crochet Lace Summer Jacket
How to Crochet a Summer Lace Jacket
Size: EU 40 = US 10 / UK 12
Materials:
300 g of cotton-viscose yarn (47% cotton, 53% viscose, approx. 437 yd / 100 g); crochet hook size 1.5 mm = US 7 / UK 4½, 6 buttons, sewing needle
Instructions:
Start by making a full-size pattern (template) of all the jacket pieces and adjust it according to your body measurements.
Crochet a sample motif following Chart 1, measure it and compare with the pattern to ensure size accuracy.
The flower at the center of the square motif should be crocheted with a finer yarn to avoid stiffness — to do this, split the main yarn into two thinner strands.
The central element is bordered with chains of 5 chain stitches each.
The cloverleaf motif consists of three “picots” joined together, each made of 5 chain stitches (see Chart 2).
The “crown” motif is worked entirely in the second round of the border.
Crochet 7 square motifs according to Chart 1, joining them together during the final round.
Then crochet a lace band following Chart 5, attaching it to the picots of each square motif as shown in Chart 4.
The resulting spaces between the motifs should be filled with small flowers from Chart 4a, worked using the finer yarn.
Steam the finished lace band, place it on the pattern template and divide it into three sections for the left front, right front, and back.
Crochet the back panel in a mesh pattern with cloverleaf inserts following Chart 6, anchoring it to the lace band as you go.
After 4 in / 10 cm, begin shaping the armholes by making decreases.
After an additional 2.75 in / 7 cm, begin shaping the neckline. Check your work against the pattern regularly to ensure accuracy.
Then crochet the front panels, shaping the neckline and armholes as per the template and connecting them to the back panel during the process.
Steam the completed fabric and join the front and back panels at the shoulders using a lace band according to Chart 7, attaching it through the picots.
Next, work on the lower part of the jacket.
From the bottom of the lace band, crochet downward using the mesh pattern from Chart 6.
To achieve a slight flare at the hem, increase the number of chain stitches in the arches (use 6 chain stitches instead of 5).
Determine the final length of the jacket by trying it on. The last row is worked following Chart 8.
For each sleeve, crochet 2 square motifs according to Chart 1, joining them during the final round.
Then edge one side with lace following Chart 5.
Continue working in the mesh pattern from Chart 6, shaping the sleeve cap and the sides as shown in the pattern. Check against the template regularly.
Once the sleeves are complete, attach them first along the armholes using the lace band through the picots, then along the side seams with the same lace band.
Fill the open spaces between the square motifs with small flowers from Chart 4a, again using the finer yarn.
Finally, crochet the button band along the neckline and front edges following Chart 3.
Sew the buttons onto the left front panel.
The lace holes of the edging band will serve as buttonholes.
