Fantasy Stitch Sweater Knitting Pattern
How to knit the Fantasy Stitch Sweater:
Sizes: 10/12 (14/16) 18/20 UK, 6/8 (10/12) 14/16 US.
Materials:
650 (700/750) g yarn (100% cotton; 100 m/50 g / approx. 109 yd/1.76 oz). Knitting needles 3 mm and 4 mm (US 2½ and US 6); circular needles 3 mm (US 2½), 40 cm / 16 in long.
Ribbing Pattern, needles 3 mm: alternately 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.
Mesh Pattern, needles 4 mm: odd number of stitches.
Row 1 and Row 2: purl stitches.
Row 3 (right side): 1 knit stitch * yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 stitch and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, repeat from *.
Row 4 (wrong side): purl stitches.
Repeat Row 1 to Row 4 throughout.
Gauge: 18 stitches x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.
Fantasy Pattern, needles 4 mm (over 25 stitches):
Work according to chart, which shows right-side rows only.
On wrong-side rows, work the stitches as they appear, purl the yarn overs.
Repeat Row 1 to Row 18 throughout.
Gauge: 25 stitches = 12 cm / 4¾ in wide.
Back:
Cast on 96 (102/108) stitches and work 5 cm / 2 in in Ribbing Pattern, in the last row increase evenly 17 (19/21) stitches = 113 (121/129) stitches.
Continue in the following distribution: edge stitch, 9 (11/13) stitches Mesh Pattern, * 25 stitches Fantasy Pattern, 9 (11/13) stitches Mesh Pattern, repeat from * 2 times, edge stitch.
At a height of 44 cm / 17¼ in for the armholes bind off on both sides in every second row 1 time 2 stitches (3 times 2 stitches / 5 times 2 stitches) and 7 times 1 stitch (5 times 1 stitch / 3 times 1 stitch) = 95 (99/103) stitches.
At a height of 67 (68/69) cm / 26½ (26¾/27¼) in for the neckline bind off the middle 21 stitches, on both sides of them bind off in every second row 2 times 3 stitches.
At a height of 69 (70/71) cm / 27¼ (27½/28) in bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Front:
Work as for the back, but at a height of 59 (60/61) cm / 23¼ (23½/24) in for the neckline bind off the middle 13 stitches, on both sides of them bind off in every second row 2 times 2 stitches and 6 times 1 stitch.
At a height of 69 (70/71) cm / 27¼ (27½/28) in bind off the remaining shoulder stitches.
Sleeves:
Cast on 38 (42/44) stitches and work 5 cm / 2 in in Ribbing Pattern.
In the last row increase evenly 19 (19/21) stitches = 57 (61/65) stitches.
Continue in the following distribution: edge stitch, 15 (17/19) stitches Mesh Pattern, 25 stitches Fantasy Pattern, 15 (17/19) stitches Mesh Pattern, edge stitch.
For the sleeve shaping increase on both sides in every 6th row 11 times 1 stitch, then alternately in every 4th and 6th row 8 times 1 stitch = 95 (99/103) stitches.
Work the increased stitches in Mesh Pattern.
At a height of 45 cm / 17¾ in on both sides in every second row bind off 4 times 2 stitches (3 times 2 stitches / 1 time 2 stitches) and 3 times 1 stitch (5 times 1 stitch / 9 times 1 stitch), then bind off the remaining stitches.
Work the second sleeve in the same way.
Finishing:
Join the shoulder seams.
Along the neckline with circular needles pick up about 120 stitches and work 2.5 cm / 1 in in Ribbing Pattern, then bind off the stitches in pattern.
Join the side seams and sleeve seams. Set in the sleeves.
