Vest with Cables
Sizes: 14-16 (18-20) / US 10-12 (14-16).
Materials:
Yarn: 650 (700) g (thin wool mixture, 8 strands held tog); quick knit needles sizes 3 and 3.5 mm (US 2.5 and 4) and 1 circular needle size 3 mm (US 2.5); 5 buttons.
Rib Pattern: alt K1, P1.
Cable Pattern:
Work according to chart. Only RS rows are shown.
On WS rows work all sts as they appear or as established, purl yos.
Gauge: 24 sts and 31 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Back:
Using needles size 3 mm, cast on 120 (132) sts and work 3 cm in Rib Patt.
Cont with 3.5 mm needles in pat as foll: selv st (selv st, from 1st to 7th st), from 1st to 45th st, from 1st to 25th st, from 1st to 45th st, from 1st to 28th st, selv st (from 1st to 10th st, selv st).
Neckline Shaping: When work meas 72 (73) cm from beg, bind off center 33 sts and complete both sides separately.
For rounding at inside edge on every 2nd row bind off 5 sts once. At the same time, for shoulder slants, at outside edge bind off 11 sts twice and 12 sts twice (13 sts 3 times and 14 sts once).
Left Front:
Using needles size 3 mm, cast on 60 (66) sts and work 3 cm in Rib Patt.
Cont with 3.5 mm needles in pat as foll: selv st (selv st, from 1st to 7th st), from 1st to 45th st, from 1st to 25th st, selv st.
For neckline slant, when piece meas 46 (47) cm from beg, bind off 1 st at left end and then on every 2nd and 4th row alt 1 st 6 times and on every 4th row 1 st 16 times.
When piece meas 72 (73) cm from beg, at right end work shoulder slant like for back.
Right Front: Work in reverse.
Finishing:
Close shoulder seams.
Using 3 mm circular needle, pick up 465 (473) sts evenly along vertical edges of fronts and neckline edge and work 8 cm in Rib Pattern for band. When band meas 4 cm, work 5 buttonholes evenly spaced on right front band: bind off 4 sts and cast them on again on foll row.
Arrange buttonholes spaced 10 cm apart beg at 3 cm from bottom edge.
Then bind off all sts.
For armhole band, pick up sts along upper edge of body and work 5 cm in Rib Pattern.
Then bind off all sts.
Join seam of short edge of band.
Sew side seams.
Sew on buttons.
